Strong Enough
Joan Red Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you remember back when we were young
When the trees would hide behind the sun
Always hoped those days would never fade

I remember how you looked at me
With your eyes deeper than the sea
How I used to tell you I was strong
And how you believed

I can make the world stop turning
I can keep the rain from falling down
I can make your dreams worth living
If only we keep holding on
If I'm strong enough

Now that those days are long gone
I can see that's not the same old song
I can tell the smells will never fade

It's not what I'm used to
I need a fix
A shock to pull through
How I used to tell you I was strong
Well you believed

I can make the world stop turning
I can keep the rain from falling down
I can make your dreams worth living
If only we keep holding on
If I'm strong enough

Strong enough
(If I'm strong enough)
(If I'm strong enough)

Do you remember back when we were young
When the trees would hide behind the sun
When I used to tell you I was strong
Well you believed

I can make the world stop turning
I can keep the rain from falling down
I can make your dreams worth living
If only we keep holding on
If I'm strong enough

(I can make the world stop turning)
(I can keep the rain from falling down)
Strong enough
(I can make your dreams worth living)

(If only we keep holding on)
If I'm strong enough

Overall Meaning

The song "Strong Enough" by Joan Red is a heartfelt and nostalgic piece about reminiscing the good old days and hoping to recreate similar moments in the present. The first verse sets the tone by taking the listener back to the past, where the singer remembers days of innocence and joy when the trees would hide behind the sun. The repetition of the phrase "I remember," emphasizes the significance of these memories, and how they have stayed with the singer over the years. The lines "Always hoped those days would never fade," reveal the singer's desire to hold onto these moments forever, but as the song progresses, it becomes apparent that times have changed.

In the chorus, the singer confidently declares their optimism and capacity to make things better, expressing their commitment to their loved one. The lines "I can make the world stop turning, I can keep the rain from falling down, I can make your dreams worth living," shows the singer's determination to make their relationship work, "If only we keep holding on," and if they are "strong enough." The repetition of the line "If I'm strong enough," highlights the central theme of the song of the singer questioning their strength to hold onto their relationship.

However, as the song progresses, the singer acknowledges that they need a change to make the relationship work. The lines "Now that those days are long gone, I can see that's not the same old song," demonstrate the singer's realization that the world around them has changed. Still, they continue to look to the past for inspiration and hope. Ultimately, the song is a beautiful exploration of nostalgia, hope, and love.

Its 2017 and I just found this band. Their music moves the heart. But it makes me sad as I read below about the death of the singer, it reminds of a personal experience I've personally been thru. The music will play on forever tho.

This song shows a different view to me now since Troni is gone. "I can make the world stop turning" I see that now since you've left our lives, "I can keep the rain from falling down" and I seen that when you were here because you could brighten a day. So this song has two sides to it to me now. I still can't believe that you're gone. I love & miss you. Rest In Paradise, Anthony

This band is really kick ass. It's a shame that the singer died because this whole album is flawless. They could have made it big. RIP Anthony.
