Express Yourself
Joe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Express yourself!
Express yourself!

You don't ever need help from nobody else. all you got to do now:

Express yourself!

What ever you do, do it good.
What ever you do, do it good. all right...

It's not what you look like, when you're doin', what you're doin'
It's what you're doin', when you're doin', what you look like you're doin'

Express yourself!
Express yourself!

They're doin' it on the moon, yeah...
In the jungle too.
Everybody on the floor.
Jumping like a kangaroo.
So let the horns do the thing they do.

Some people have everything, and other people don't.
But everything don't mean a thing if it ain't the thing you want.

Express yourself!
Express yourself!

O, do it! o, do it.
Express yourself!
Everybody, everybody!
Express yourself!
Come on now!
Express yourself! ooooh...
Express yourself!
If you doin', if you want!
If you doin', if you want!
Express yourself!
Come on now! express yourself!
Express yourself!
If you don't money get mine!
Express yourself!
All you got you doing!
All you got you doing!
Express yourself!
Hey! hey!
Express yourself!
Express yourself!
Express yourself!
Come on!
Come on now! yeah!

Express yourself!
Express yourself!

Overall Meaning

The song "Express Yourself" by JOE encourages people to be authentic and true to themselves. The opening lines of the song repeatedly urges listeners to express themselves and not to rely on anyone else. The artist emphasizes that whatever one does, it should be done well, and it only matters what a person does, not how they appear while doing it.

In the second verse, JOE gives examples of people who are not afraid to express themselves, saying “They're doin' it on the moon, yeah…In the jungle too.” The bridge of the song reminds us that not everyone has everything they desire in life, but it is important to focus on what truly fulfill us.

The overall message of the song is to encourage people to be themselves and to be creative without any restrictions or boundaries. The artist motivates them to dance and to use every opportunity to showcase their skills in the most authentic way possible.
