Soon As I Get Paid
Joe Lyrics

Gotta get that money
Get that money
Gotta get that money
Get that money...

Hmm
You've been working all day
Just to pay your rent
When they give you your check
Its already spent
And the credit collectors are stalking you
Every bill you have is overdue

I've been working hard as hell for you
To show you things you've never knew
Don't have to do it all by yourself
In just a little while you'll see
That things will turn around

I'll take your clothes off layway
I'll take you shopping every day
Anything you want girl, it's okay
Girl I'll buy you things you've never dreamed of
As soon as I get paid

Making love in a house in the Spanish Isles
A mi casa a tu casa along the Nile
You're a beautiful girl with expensive dreams
When I get it, you got it, like 1-2-3

I've been working hard as hell for you
To show you things you've never knew
Don't have to do it all by yourself
In just a little while you'll see
That things will turn around

I'll take your clothes off layway
I'll take you shopping every day
Anything you want girl, it's okay
Girl I'll buy you things you've never dreamed of
As soon as I get paid

Won't let you want no more
Once I get on top
Gonna give you all I got
You'll be secure
Never have to worry 'bout no bills no more

I'll take your clothes off layway
I'll take you shopping every day
Anything you want girl, it's okay
Girl I'll buy you things you've never dreamed of
As soon as I get paid

I'll take your clothes off layway
I'll take you shopping every day
Anything you want girl, it's okay
Girl I'll buy you things you've never dreamed of
As soon as I get paid

I'll take your clothes off layway
I'll take you shopping every day
Anything you want girl, it's okay

Gonna buy you Prada,
Gucci, Fendi soon as I get paid

Overall Meaning

The song "Soon As I Get Paid" by Joe is a reflection on the daily struggles of life, focusing on the constant grind of working to make ends meet. Joe starts the song by repeatedly saying "Gotta get that money" and "Get that money," emphasizing the importance of financial stability. The first verse describes the difficulties faced when trying to pay rent and bills, with the paycheck already being used up before it's even received. The pressure of overdue bills and debt collectors adds to the stress of daily life.

However, the chorus of the song offers a glimmer of hope. Joe promises to take care of his partner and makes grandiose statements such as "I'll take your clothes off layway, I'll take you shopping every day." These are promises of a future filled with abundance and security when things finally turn around. They suggest a life of luxury that may have seemed impossible before but now within reach. The song continues with Joe affirming his love for his partner and how he has been working hard to make their dreams come true. He reiterates that he doesn't want them to have to worry about bills anymore and the sense of relief and security that would come with this.

Overall, "Soon As I Get Paid" is about the struggle for financial stability and how it affects relationships. It shows the desire to provide and take care of those we love, but also the difficulties we face when trying to do so.

One of my favorite ever tracks of Joe's. I have it on a u.k. vinyl album sampler from back when the album came out but it didnt appear on the release. Always wanted to know who produced it???

D

yea i second that inquiry. who produced this? Joe never really worked with outside producers alot in this era, but he did. It sounds alot like Darkchild, maybe even Teddy Riley, but of course, not for certain.
