That
Joe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When the world goes left I go right
Just to go against the grain
I crash and burn most of the time
And I know how blood tastes
A no trespass sign ends in blue lights
Little white lies lose trust
Nothing hurts like a goodbye
And that's how I grew up

I grew up in a back seat
On a back road
With the one that got away
Grew up in a back pew of an old church
Where I learned Amazing Grace
Make no mistake, I wouldn't change who I am or who I was
Most things I learned the hard way
But that's how I grew up

Well, you can win the fight and lose the war
What you say you can't take back
When you can't be the man she needs you to be
It'll make you grow up fast

I grew up in a back seat
On a back road
With the one that got away
Grew up in a back pew of an old church
Where I learned Amazing Grace
Make no mistake, I wouldn't change who I am or who I was
Most things I learned the hard way
But that's how I grew up
Yeah, that's how I grew up

The first time I saw daddy cry
Was when his went to meet the sun
We said goodbye for the last time
That's how I grew up

I grew up in a back seat
On a back road
With the one that got away
Grew up in a back pew of an old church
Where I learned Amazing Grace
Make no mistake I wouldn't change who I am or who I was
Most things I learned the hard way
But that's how I grew up
Most things I learned the hard way
But that's how I grew up

When the world goes left, I go right
Just to go against the grain

Overall Meaning

Joe's song "That" speaks about the experiences he had growing up and how they have shaped the person he is today. In the first verse, he talks about how he intentionally goes against the norm, even though it results in failure most of the time. He also speaks about how lies can break trust, and goodbyes can hurt deeply. Through these experiences, he learned and grew up to be who he is today.

In the second verse, he talks about growing up in a back seat on a back road with someone that got away. He also talks about growing up in a back pew of an old church, where he learned about Amazing Grace. Joe acknowledges that most of what he learned, he learned the hard way, but he wouldn't change anything because it's made him who he is.

So many have pointed out that the corset stuff I talk about has been debunked and I want to point to videos and creators who have done that, including Bernadette Banner: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjMlfIMJIJDgt6rOUV3PGgVvIszIqVE-R

@Zombie DoggieNo. Just research. I never said they had anything in common. Think further.

Zombie Doggie

@Talaria Films "Research" as in "Conveniently in line with your world view." Got it. BTW Polio and MRNA have nothing in common. Actually, only thing in common is polio is a virus that would have MRNA in it, I stand corrected there.

Talaria Films

@Zombie Doggie wrong. Do some more research. Or just go get all the mRNA injections and all the boosters. Lol... oh, you did. Tic tock

Zombie Doggie

@Talaria Films I'm calling bull on this. Mental health always was a problem even before doctors started injecting stuff into people's veins. The existance of "bedlam" itself proves that wrong. Polio also was a problem even before then. Polio is not new, it's actually a very ancient virus.

Talaria Films

doctors injected arsenic and mercury into people. It's where polio came from. Polio is not a virus, it was because of lead and arsenic in pest control spray. And then a whole new industry was born: psychiatry. Before the pesticides there was only alcoholism that was the problem. INtroducing heavy metals created insanity...literally.
