Where You At
Joe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to, do you know?
Do you get what you're hoping for?
When you look behind you there's no open door.
What are you hoping for, do you know?

Once we were standing still in time,
Chasing the fantasies that filled our minds.
And you knew how I loved you but my spirit was free,
Laughing at the questions that you once asked of me.
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to, do you know?

Now looking back at all we planned,
We let so many dreams just slip through our hands.
Why must we wait so long before we see
How sad the answers to those questions can be?

Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to, do you know?

Do you get what you're hoping for?
When you look behind you there's no open door.

Overall Meaning

Joe's song "Where You At" is a reflective piece that encapsulates the feeling of being lost in life. The lyrics are introspective and ask thought-provoking questions that challenge the listener to evaluate their own path. The phrase "Do you know where you're going to?" is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the theme of uncertainty and the need for direction.

The first verse asks if the listener is content with their current situation and if they are receiving the fulfillment they desire. The rhetorical question "Where are you going to, do you know?" implies that the future is uncertain and unpredictable. This uncertainty is further emphasized in the second verse, where the lyrics describe the feeling of chasing unrealistic expectations and eventually realizing that reality does not match the ideal. The line "Why must we wait so long before we see" suggests that life moves quickly and it's easy for years to pass by without any progress.

The chorus repeats the same questions, prompting the listener to reflect on their own life. The final line "When you look behind you there's no open door" emphasizes the importance of making the most of the present and future opportunities, as dwelling on past regrets is not productive.

Overall, "Where You At" is a poignant reminder to live intentionally and make the most of the opportunities presented in life. The lyrics are universal and relatable, making the song a timeless classic.

Where you at
Where you at
Where you at
Baby where you at
Baby where you at
Baby where you at
Baby where you at

[Joe]
Every word I cut you down is playing in my head
Like a scar face crime scene ain't no bringing it back
Those tears didn't mean much to bun now I know
That you said you didn't feel it to the wind starts to get cold

[Chorus:]
Only she's the woman like the car I replaced it
No sleep I wonder if she saw this bullet coming like this
Only words that I can hear in my ear is the gesture your gon' the seeds
You planted in the fields
Baby where you at when you sitting on my pillow case no more
Baby where you at I just recognized I'm living life alone
Baby where you at I just wish just wish you'd call me
Damn this phone baby where you at
Doc said I only got four weeks my whole life just flashed before me

[Joe]
Oh, oh, ohhhaaa (how foolish could I be)
Wild as can be
Never (never) fear be humble (humble)
Got me out to face my fate
May never have a choice to be honest (honest) with the one that was loyal to me
God really has his ways of taken you off that stage

[Chorus]

[Papoose]
Yea Papoose, Pap, Papoose
They say you never know what you have till you lose it
You promise your girl something you better do it
You can't tell a woman you love her are you stupid
Words don't express you love you got to prove it
Back then our relationship wasn't the truest
Grown man slow dance to Joe music
As the time went on I become foolish
Now your gone everything ruined
But girl this is Papoose I'm on your favorite track
I know your friends are in your ear
But baby come back and I never let you down so later for that
I told you I was gonna make it I was the savior of rap
And I work hard you don't got to cater to Pap
I tie my own do-rag
Lay back and relax
You don't even got to accept my apology
But I'm man enough to admit it acknowledge me

[Joe]
Awhooo babe
If anyone up in here wasn't just like me
Awhooo babe
Treat her like this wasn't last week
Wont you call babe (wont you call)
No this song babe
Girl you know this song is hearing me
Damn I regret when I almost pass me

[Chorus: (fade out)]
Baby where you at when you sitting on my pillow case no more
Baby where you at I just recognized I'm living life alone
Baby where you at I just wish just wish you'd call me
Damn this phone baby where you at
Doc said I only got four weeks my whole life just past before me

Erika W aaaaaand is the BEST male r and b artist since he came out!!!!! I remember how it was when he came out. He was a hell of a lot less subduded when he came out and all the industry nyggas was SCARED OF HIM! ALL OF THEM! After Joe's first album came out everybody started low key taking his runs n shit and just like trying to manuver around him and shit. Go back and listen you would be able to tell the diffference between his first and second albums. He came out swinging for the rafters every song singing all the way til the song went off, then next album he had to get more industry and hold back on nyggas cause they wasnt ready. Same thing with Brandy! Anyways. AS a person who has peeped Joe since before his debut album came out ( im talkin video soul donnie simpson days) i can safely say that JOE STILL IS THE MOST UNDERRATED RNB SINGER OF THIS GENERATION! Peace!
