In The Morning
Joe Bel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm looking in your eyes
There's nothing I can do
There's nothing left to say
I've been trying hard but the night is through
I'm lying in this bed
Don't wanna go away
I see you in the dark, but you're sleeping already
Hold your pillow tight

Cause I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands
And I'll be gone for a while when you've broken your chains
Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands, Clap your hands
Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands
And I'll be gone for a while when you've broken your chains
Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands, Clap your hands

I'm looking in your eyes
I wanted us to last
Do you recall the song that I wrote, did you hear it
I know you've heard them all
I know I've been a liar
But would you ever change
Have you ever thought about knowing your heart to keep us going on?

I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands
And I'll be gone for a while when you've broken your chains
Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands, Clap your hands
Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands
And I'll be gone for a while when you've broken your chains
Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands, Clap your hands

Yes I'll be gone in the morning
And I'll be gone for a while
Yes I'll be gone in the morning

Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands
And I'll be gone for a while when you've broken your chains
Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands, Clap your hands
Yes I'll be gone in the morning
Clap your hands

And I'll be gone for a while
Yes I'll be gone in the morning

Overall Meaning

Joe Bel's song "In the Morning" is a melancholic yet intimate ballad about the end of a relationship. The song's lyrics explore a break-up and the singer's inability to stay in the relationship any longer, despite wanting things to work out. The chorus, "I'll be gone in the morning, Clap your hands," suggests that the relationship is over and that the singer will be leaving when daybreak comes. The repeated "Clap your hands" phrase could be taken as a way of encouraging the other to let go and move forward. The lines, "I know you've heard them all, I know I've been a liar," are a confession of faults and a realization of the inevitable end of the relationship. The singer's tender vocals are reminiscent of a sigh, conveying sadness and perhaps a hint of regret.

In the second verse, the singer asks if the other remembers a song they wrote, suggesting that the relationship had some beautiful moments. However, the lyrics also hint at the fact that the singer has been dishonest, leading to an ultimatum: "Have you ever thought about knowing your heart to keep us going on?" It seems that it may be too late for reconciliation, and the singer is resigned to leaving.

Joe Bel's "In the Morning" is a beautiful and emotive song that expresses sorrow, regret and the pain of letting go. The lyrics are poignant and relatable while the melody and Joe’s voice give the song an added degree of weight and sincerity. This ballad of love and heartbreak, with its haunting melody and introspective lyrics, is sure to resonate with many.

I was painting a Christmas present for a loved friend of mine when this song came. I immediately loved it but when I listened to it the second time and actually listened, I broke down in tears at the refrain because this song is 100% fitting my current situation. Literally every part of it.
Now I can't listen to it anymore without breaking into tears, which is kinda sad but also beautiful.
It's been approx a week, since our ways parted and I don't know if we'll ever meet again.
I'm so grateful to you for writing this astonishingly beautiful and touching song. and to Spotify for recommending it to me ;)
