A Sunday Kind of Love
Joe Bonamassa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A love that will last past Saturday night
And I've got to know it's more than love at first sight
I want a Sunday kind of love
I want a love that's on the square
Can't seem to find somebody, someone to care
And I'm on a lonely road that leads me nowhere
I do all my Sunday dreaming and all my Sunday scheming
Every minute, every hour, every day
And I'm hoping to discover a certain kind of lover
Who will show me the way
And my arms need someone to enfold, to keep me warm
When those mondays and tuesdays grow cold
And I need a love for all my life, to have and to hold
I want a Sunday kind of love, oh yeah
I don't want a Monday or a Tuesday
Wednesday or Thursday, Friday or Saturday
I don't want nothing baby
But I want a Sunday kind of love
Joe Bonamassa & Beth Hart's "A Sunday Kind of Love" is an earnest plea for a deep, meaningful and lasting love, that transcends physical attraction. The song opens with the desire for a love that will last beyond Saturday night, with a keen awareness that it takes more than the initial spark of attraction for a love to endure. The lyrics go on to express a longing for a love that is genuine, built on a strong foundation of true caring, and extends into all aspects of life - not just on the weekends. The singer is on a lonely road and needs someone to give him a love that is "on the square."
The chorus is an exclamation of the singer's desire for a timeless kind of love, that is present every day, not just on the weekends. It is a love that is worth dreaming and scheming for, a love that will stand the test of time. The singer longs for arms to hold him, a love to keep him warm beyond Mondays and Tuesdays, and a love that is permanent - one that he can hold onto for the rest of his life.
"A Sunday Kind of Love" was originally written by Barbara Belle, Anita Leonard, Stan Rhodes, and Louis Prima, and was first recorded in 1946 by Claude Thornhill and His Orchestra. In the years since, the song has been covered by numerous artists, including Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and The Harlem Gospel Travelers.
