And I ain't so far from you
As the crow flies baby
And I ain't so far from you
Well I don't have wings
And I can't get home like I want to
Well I heard you call my name
In a dream last night
Well I heard you call my name
Well I took it as an omen
And I jumped on that next train
Oh whoa
Well you don't know baby
How I miss your sweet caress
Well you don't know baby
How I miss your sweet caress
When I'm in your lovin' arms
And I swear I'm at my very best
As the crow flies baby
The lyrics of Joe Bonamassa's "As The Crow Flies" song are about the distance between the singer and his loved one. He feels close to her as long as it's measured like flying does, but in reality, he is facing real-life limitations without being able to reach her. Bonamassa compares himself to a bird, a crow that can fly without limitations, and can effortlessly reach places that he can't. He feels like he is trapped in the physical world, and without wings, he can't fly, so he can't get home as he wants.
The second verse mentions a dream where the singer hears his lover's voice calling his name. He takes it as a sign that he should go and see her. Therefore, he takes the opportunity to jump on the next train to reach his lover. The third verse talks about the loneliness he feels when he is away from her, and how he craves her touch. He pleads for her to understand his longing for her, and that he is at his best only when he's with her.
In conclusion, "As The Crow Flies" speaks about the distance between two people who long for each other but can’t be together due to real-world limitations. The singer compares himself to a crow, highlighting the distance that exists between them, while still longing to be together.
