Bonamassa was born in Utica, New York. He started playing guitar at age four, encouraged by his father, who was an avid music fan and exposed him to British blues rock records by Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, greatly inspiring him. At 11 years old Joe was mentored and trained by American guitar legend, Danny Gatton. When he was 12 years old, he had his own band called Smokin' Joe Bonamassa, which gigged around western New York and Pennsylvania, including cities such as Scranton and Buffalo, but only on weekends since Joe had school on weekdays. Bonamassa played a crimson 1972 Fender Stratocaster he called "Rosie", which his father had bought in Utica, New York.
When he was 12 years old, Bonamassa opened for B.B. King. In the last 13 years Bonamassa has put out 15 solo albums through his independent record label J&R Adventures, of which 11 have reached number 1 on the Billboard Blues charts. Bonamassa has played alongside such artists as Stephen Stills, Eric Clapton, Blondie Chaplin, Foreigner, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood, Warren Haynes, Solomon Hicks, and Derek Trucks among others.[4] His career highlights include performances at the Royal Albert Hall and has had three Grammy Award nominations in 2013, for his collaboration album with Beth Hart "Seesaw", in 2016 for the album "Live at the Greek Theatre" and 2022 for the album "Royal Tea". In addition to his music career, Joe Bonamassa runs a nonprofit organisation called the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation, whose mission is to further music education by funding scholarships and providing music education resources to schools in need. in 2020, he added an extension to the foundation. Called Fuelling Musicians, it provides $1500 cheques to struggling musicians affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
in 2021, he broke his own record for having more #1 Billboard blues albums than anyone in history. The album "Time Clocks" clocked up his 25th #1 album.
He is also known for his enormous collection of vintage guitars and related gear.

Oh mama, turn my back just when you twist the knife
Oh mama, I see trouble brewing in your eyes, eyes
Oh mama, I won't ever let you in my life
Oh you hit me, with your lies and your greed
No that ain't nothin', nothing that I need
Why would you think, that I would ever wanna
Oh honey, can only play that jail game once or twice
Oh honey, stealing what ain't yours just ain't right
Pound on that back door but I won't let you in
God and the devil, I know exactly where you've been
Why would you think, that I would ever wanna
Waste my time on you, evil mama
Why would I let you put your chains on me
Keep me in a cage, under lock and key
Why would you think that I would ever wanna
Waste my time on you
Waste my time on you, evil mama
Evil mama
Evil mama
Evil mama, yeah
Evil mama
Evil mama
The song "Evil Mama" by Joe Bonamassa talks about a toxic relationship between a mother and a child. The opening line talks about how the mother is sneaking up on the child in the black of night, indicating that she may be deceitful or manipulative. The subsequent lines suggest that the mother has twisted the knife in the child's back and has brewed trouble in her eyes. The child is firm on not letting the mother back into her life since she has caused nothing but pain.
The second verse talks about how the mother has hit the child with lies and greed, which are not what the child needs. The child questions why the mother would think she would want to waste her time on someone like her. The lyrics also mention how stealing is not right, which could mean that the mother has taken something from the child that belonged to her. The final verse is the child's assertion of not allowing the mother to put her chains on her or keep her in a cage under lock and key since she has no interest in wasting time on her evil mama.
Overall, "Evil Mama" is a powerful song that delves into the complications of familial relationships and the lengths at which someone may go to cut someone toxic out of their life.

Best album by Joe and best opening track. Full potential of all band members and - not unimportant - production team fully used. Solo by Joe heavily influenced by British blues saints. If the band can stay together and keep this level of musicality, the golden years just started. Thank you so much!
