Bonamassa was born in Utica, New York. He started playing guitar at age four, encouraged by his father, who was an avid music fan and exposed him to British blues rock records by Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, greatly inspiring him. At 11 years old Joe was mentored and trained by American guitar legend, Danny Gatton. When he was 12 years old, he had his own band called Smokin' Joe Bonamassa, which gigged around western New York and Pennsylvania, including cities such as Scranton and Buffalo, but only on weekends since Joe had school on weekdays. Bonamassa played a crimson 1972 Fender Stratocaster he called "Rosie", which his father had bought in Utica, New York.
When he was 12 years old, Bonamassa opened for B.B. King. In the last 13 years Bonamassa has put out 15 solo albums through his independent record label J&R Adventures, of which 11 have reached number 1 on the Billboard Blues charts. Bonamassa has played alongside such artists as Stephen Stills, Eric Clapton, Blondie Chaplin, Foreigner, Buddy Guy, Steve Winwood, Warren Haynes, Solomon Hicks, and Derek Trucks among others.[4] His career highlights include performances at the Royal Albert Hall and has had three Grammy Award nominations in 2013, for his collaboration album with Beth Hart "Seesaw", in 2016 for the album "Live at the Greek Theatre" and 2022 for the album "Royal Tea". In addition to his music career, Joe Bonamassa runs a nonprofit organisation called the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation, whose mission is to further music education by funding scholarships and providing music education resources to schools in need. in 2020, he added an extension to the foundation. Called Fuelling Musicians, it provides $1500 cheques to struggling musicians affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
in 2021, he broke his own record for having more #1 Billboard blues albums than anyone in history. The album "Time Clocks" clocked up his 25th #1 album.
He is also known for his enormous collection of vintage guitars and related gear.
Too Much Ain't Enough Love

But made me smile
How could I have known
Hunger locked in time
We control the fame
But we can't control the flame
And I just can't wait to feel the heat again
In the middle of the night
She cry too much ain't enough love
To satisfy me, yeah
I said too much ain't enough love to satisfy me
Well it just seems like yesterday
I was running alone
And I turn my back home love
But baby I was wrong
Do I miss your touch or tell myself on the line
Then I can't get enough when I'm lying by your side
In the middle of the night
She cry too much ain't enough love
To satisfy me, yeah
Too much love ain't enough to satisfy me
I gotta burn his heart baby
Do I miss your touch or tell myself a lie
And I can't get enough when I'm by your side
In the middle of the night
She cry too much ain't enough love to satisfy me, yeah
I said too much ain't enough love to satisfy me
I gotta burn it hard baby
Too much ain't enough love to satisfy me, yeah
Where there's smoke, there's fire baby
Too much ain't enough love to satisfy me hey
I said too much, ain't enough yeah, to satisfy me
I said too much
I said too much
Too much, I said too much
They will smile baby
You want too much
With an angel smile
I know baby
I hunger like
I said too much ain't enough
Too much ain't enough love to satisfy me
The lyrics of Joe Bonamassa's "Too Much Ain't Enough Love" paint a picture of a love that is too strong to resist. The song describes how the singer's lover entered his life unexpectedly, making him smile but unlocking a hunger that he wasn't aware of before. Despite being in control of their fame and success, they can't control the flame of their passion. The lyrics suggest that they have been apart for some time, but the singer is tormented by his desire to be with his lover again. He questions whether he misses her touch or if he is lying to himself to make the distance more bearable.
The chorus of the song, "Too much ain't enough love to satisfy me," expresses the idea that their love is insatiable. They can't get enough of each other, but even with all the love in the world, it still feels like they need more. The singer wants to burn with passion for his lover and feels that where there's smoke, there's fire. The song is a passionate plea for a love that is all-consuming and unstoppable.
