His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

Another Mind Gone
Joe Cocker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The truth
Come Shining through
Soon There'll be
There'll be no place to turn to
In the light
Of the day
So far away
anything that we've been used to
Just another mind gone
Just another mad song
From a self neglector
I'm telling you
It's just another night crow
Another mind blow
And then rejected
Another mind gone
Hard
To say
The right way
It should be ours
Ours just for the taking
In the dawns
They're lying
Give us strenght of mind
Yet leaves us on
While other hearts are breaking
It's just another lifewire
Just another hell fire
Needed understanding
Hear me now
It's just another headcase
Another lost face
Being so demanding
Another mind gone
It seems so hard
To keep my sanity
Just stay in touch
With reality
I apologise
I don't want a ride
I don't want to be
Another mind gone
It's just another mind gone
Just another mad dog
Feeling selfneglected
Telling you
It's just another headcase
Another lost face
Being so demanding
Another mind gone
Yeah
Another mind gone
Another mind gone
Another mind gone
Another mind gone
Just another mad song I know
Another mind gone
Another mind gone
Another mind gone
Another mind gone
It's just another headcase
Just another lost face
And there's a mind gone
The song "Another Mind Gone" by Joe Cocker is an insightful and emotional exploration of the struggles and challenges of maintaining one's sanity and connection with reality in a world full of chaos, pain, and confusion. The lyrics speak to the universal human experience of feeling lost, isolated, and disconnected from the world around us, and the sense of hopelessness and desperation that can arise in such moments of despair.
The song begins with a powerful sense of urgency and desperation, as the singer expresses his fear that there will soon be "no place to turn to" and that he is far away from anything he has been used to. The reference to "Just another mind gone" emphasizes the sense of isolation and disconnection that the singer is feeling, and the "mad song" he refers to speaks to the chaos and confusion that surrounds him. As the song progresses, the singer expresses a desire for clarity and understanding, but finds himself struggling to maintain his sanity in the face of a world that seems increasingly unfathomable and confusing.
The chorus of "Another Mind Gone" serves as a powerful reminder of the fragility of our minds and our connections to reality, and the importance of staying grounded and connected in the face of life's challenges. The repeated refrain of "Just another headcase, another lost face, being so demanding, another mind gone" highlights the sense of helplessness and desperation that can arise when we feel disconnected from the world around us, and the song ultimately serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of staying connected to our own sense of truth and reality, even in the face of overwhelming challenges and adversity.
