His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

I'll Walk In The Sunshine Again
Joe Cocker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Do you think that I won't make it through?
You don't know where I come from
And you don't know what I'm made of
You won't haunt me anymore
I'll stand proud and I'll stand tall
There will come a day my friend
So come on bring on all your rain!!
It's only water it won't stay
You turn to ashes on the ground
My sun burns through your black cloud
You won't haunt me anymore
I'll stand proud and I'll stand tall
There will come a day my friend
I'll walk in sunshine again.
In Joe Cocker's song, "I'll Walk In The Sunshine Again," the lyrics are about standing up to someone who has been trying to tear you down. The singer of the song is talking to this antagonist, calling them out and challenging them. The opening lines confront them, questioning if all they can do is try to bring the singer down, and insisting that they will overcome the obstacles. The lyrics in the chorus repeat the confident assertion that the antagonist won't be able to bring them down anymore, and that the singer will be able to walk in sunshine again.
As the song progresses, the singer's confidence increases, and they almost seem to taunt the antagonist. Even if they bring rain, it won't be enough to stop the singer - they'll turn it into steam and walk over it. By the end of the song, the singer has overcome their fears and doubts, standing tall and ready to face whatever comes their way.
This song is an anthem for those who have been bullied or put down, and it encourages them to stand up and fight back. It sends a clear message that even if someone tries to knock you down, you can overcome the adversity and come out stronger on the other side.
