His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

Need Your Love So Bad
Joe Cocker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I need someone’s arms to hold and squeeze me tight
Now, when the night begins, whoa, I’m at an end
Because I need your love so bad
I need some lips to feel next to mine
Need someone to stand up - to stand up and tell me when I’m lyin’
And when the lights are low - and it’s time to go
So why don’t you give it up, baby and bring it home to me
Or write it on a piece of paper, woman - so it can be read to me
Tell me that you love me - and stop drivin’ me mad
Whoa, because I - I need your love so bad
Need a soft voice - just to talk to me at night
Don’t want you to worry, baby
I know we can make everything alright
Listen to my plea, baby, come on bring it to me
‘Cause I need - your love so bad
Baby, I need, I need - woman, I need your love so bad.
The lyrics of Joe Cocker's song "Need Your Love So Bad" express a deep longing and desperation for love and companionship. The song talks about needing someone to guide and hold you tight through the night. The singer craves the touch of someone else's lips, and the comfort of someone to talk to when the lights are low.
The song is about a man who needs a woman's love to help him through his struggles. He asks her to be there for him and to bring him home, so they can be together. He pleads with her to tell him that she loves him and to stop driving him mad. He needs her soft voice to soothe him at night, and he knows that they can make everything alright if they're together.
The emotional and soulful delivery of Cocker's vocals powerfully conveys the depth of his need for love. The lyrics are simple yet poignant, capturing the essence of human longing and desire. The song is a classic example of soul and R&B music, with its emotive melody and expressive lyrics.
