His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

I need some wisdom
I need some truth
I need some beauty
I need some proof
And in the meantime
If I had you babe I'd be satisfied
Went to the ocean
Stood in the surf
I felt the water
I felt the earth
I head the angels
They couldnt be denied
If I had you babe
I'd be satisfied
Who's gonna beleive me
I'm a broken down dog
But I can still snarl with the best
The train is leavin
We can catch it if we run
We can leave it all behind
This utter emptiness
You are the reason
That I was born
You are the answer
I'm lookin for
All of the others
Just stood around and lied
If I had you babe
I'd be satisfied
The song "Satisfied" by Joe Cocker conveys the emotions of a person who is searching for fulfillment, seeking wisdom, truth, beauty, and proof in life. The singer seeks solace and wants to hide while going through these emotions. The only thing that can satisfy him is love. The lines "If I had you babe, I'd be satisfied" reveal how love can be a cure for dissatisfaction and longing. The singer seeks love and wants to feel complete, and he finds it in the person he addresses as "babe."
The second verse gives a more serene view of the singer's feelings. The singer stands in the ocean and feels the water and the earth, indicating how the singer is holding on to the natural elements as they ground him. The singer hears the angels and acknowledges the beauty and peace that can be present in the world. However, the singer still feels incomplete without love. The song conveys that love can provide a path to joy, and everything would feel perfect with it.
The singer might be seen as exhausted and alone, but they still believe in love despite the situations around them. This song reminds us of the importance of love and how it can change one's life. It emphasizes that love can bring meaning to life and shows how love brings one's life to contentment.
