His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

Sing Me A Song
Joe Cocker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I′m so alone
Thinking about you, what you been doing
Everyone gone
It's been so long
I′ve just been thinking about how you've been feeling
Same days
All in all, oh so well
Some come
Some go
But it's what you got to show, let′s make it better
This whole disguise, look in your eyes
But baby, I′ll look to protect you
There's nothing strange
I feel the same
What do you do when you touch me?
Same days (same days)
Same nights (same nights, oh-oh)
All in all, oh so well
Some come (some come)
Some go (some go)
But it′s what you got to show, let's make it better
In Joe Cocker's song "Sing Me A Song", the lyrics express feelings of loneliness and longing for a loved one. The singer is asking for someone to sing him a song while he thinks about this person and wonders what they have been doing. He notes how everyone else has left and how it has been a long time since he has heard from this person. The lyrics also highlight the fact that despite new people coming and going in his life, this person has had a greater impact on him and he wants to make things better between them.
The lines "Same days, Same nights, All in all, oh so well" may be interpreted that the singer is stuck in a routine or cycle in his life, where everything seems to have plateaued or settled down. The repetition of “same days” and “same nights” emphasizes the monotony in his life. However, the phrase “all in all, oh so well” suggests that maybe he is comfortable in this routine, or maybe he is in denial of his true emotions. The lines "Some come, Some go, But it's what you got to show, let's make it better" could be seen as a call to action from the singer, where he wants to work with this person to make things better between them, despite previous people leaving their lives.
Overall, the lyrics in "Sing Me A Song" demonstrate the emotions of a person who misses someone, is stuck in a routine and is reaching out for a connection. The repetition of phrases such as "Same days" and "Same nights" emphasize the emotions of the singer as he longs to change his routine and be with the person he loves.
