His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

Soul Time
Joe Cocker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A little more each day
We don't act out our love
In that old sweet and simple way
The world's got problems baby
We've got problems too
Why don't we work together
And see what we can do
Say what's weighing on our minds
Take a little soul time
There's no telling what we'll find
Let's love life and live it
Stop fighting and crying
Start hanging together
And reaching and trying
This time
Take a little soul time
There's still a place we can do
Inside you and me
To change our life as it is
Into life as it should be
Unless angels, baby
Answer if we call
All our hopes and dreams
They won't let us fall
Take a little soul time
Say what's weighing on our minds
Take a little soul time
There's no telling what we'll find
Let's love life and live it
Stop fighting and crying
Start hanging together
And reaching and trying
This time
Take a little soul time
We could be so fine, so fine
If we just lay it on the line this time
Take a little soul time
Say what's weighing on our minds
Take a little soul time
There's no telling what we'll find
Let's love life and live it
Stop fighting and crying
Start hanging together
And reaching and trying
This time
Take a little soul time
Joe Cocker's song "Soul Time" proposes a solution to the problems of life by taking a little moment of introspection and looking inwards to find what is weighing on our minds. The opening line "I feel life passing me by, a little more each day" implies that the songwriter is struggling with the fast-paced nature of life and feels like it is getting away from them. The lyrics suggest that the love between individuals has become complicated, and they do not express it as sweetly as they used to. The world is facing many issues, and people need to focus on what they can do together to make a change.
The lyrics encourage individuals to take some time, to stop fighting and crying, and start living life to the fullest. By taking some soul time, people can work on themselves and support their loved ones. The line "There's still a place we can do inside you and me to change our life as it is into life as it should be" holds a significant meaning as it implies that change begins within oneself. The song implies that if everyone takes some soul time to work on themselves, their relationships, and their actions towards the world's problems, they can create a positive change.
