His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

Trust in Me
Joe Cocker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just let it go
I've loved you better than anyone else
Doesn't it show
We've been standing at the window day and night
Looking at the rain
When a simple conversation might help the situation
Please let me explain
Trust in me, when you're all alone
Trust in me, when you can't go on
If loving me is what you need
Trust in me
Don't make it easy, I don't mind
There's nothing left to lose
You just try to see what you see
And I'll be there for you
You've been standing at the window day and night
Tell me what you see
Sun in the daytime and moon at night, well
That's how easy it should be
Trust in me, when you're all alone
Trust in me, when you can't go on
If loving me is what you need
Trust in me
Trust in me when you can't go on
Trust in me, when your strength is gone
If loving me has the power to heal
Trust in me
If you need someone to hold call me
I will be there
And if ever you're in trouble
You need someone
Come to me, baby
Trust in me
Move a little closer, a little closer to the bone
Move on yeah move on
Trust in me, when you're all alone
Trust in me, when you can't go on
If loving me is what you need
Trust in me
Trust in me
I trust in you
I trust in you
I trust in you, too
Trust in me (just trust in me)
When you're all alone
Trust in me, trust in me (won't you do that)
Trust in me
When you can't go on
Trust in me
Trust in me
Trust in me
When you're all alone
The lyrics of Joe Cocker's Trust in Me convey a sense of desperation and longing to be trusted and loved. The first verse depicts the singer as someone who has loved the other person better than anyone else and offers wise advice to let go of the world they are trying so hard to control. The second verse urges the other person to open up and have a simple conversation instead of standing at the window day and night, hoping for something to happen. Trust is emphasized throughout the song, as the singer's willingness to be there for the other person no matter what is repeated in multiple stanzas.
The chorus of the song echoes the message of trust, urging the other person to rely on the singer when they are alone or unable to go on. The phrase "If loving me is what you need, trust in me" establishes a connection between love and trust and implies that the singer is ready and willing to provide both. The final verse takes a highly personal turn, with the singer inviting the other person to come to them in times of trouble, underscoring the importance of trust in any relationship.
