Joe D. Johnson Lyrics

Oooo, oooo, ooh

Verse 1:
What makes you think that I'm gonna wait forever
When we both know that your never gonna leave her
What makes you think that I don't wanna man
I could call my own
What makes you think that I don't want a family
What makes you think that I wanna be unhappy
Boy, I can't do this, it ain't right
I don't think that you should call me anymore

I can't sleep at night
I toss and turn
My mind is bursting
My conscious burns
I can't stop thinking about this love
And if the shoe was on the other foot

Chorus:
(Leave me alone), if your not gonna be here for me
(Leave me alone), if your not gonna do shyt for me
If you got a girl at home and she's pregnant
Wondering when your comin home
(Leave me alone), don't wanna know you got problems in your marriage
(Leave me alone), if you think I'm gonna help carry your baggage
(Leave me alone), cause I don't wanna share your love
Baby, I can bad on my own

(Listen)
Verse 2:
What makes you think that you could get away with murder
What makes it so easy for you to hurt her
What makes you think that I don't know that you can the same thing to me
I know you think I'll do anything for ya
Cause I been so greedy and selfish just like you
But now I'm finished, it ain't right
Even though it felt so right, it's still so wrong, oh

(Chorus)

Bridge:
Mon-day, Tuesday
Wednesday, Thursday
Friday, Saturday
If Sunday's only the day we spent a week
What's the purpose of us
It just ain't worth it to me

(Chorus)

Overall Meaning

In Joe D. Johnson's song "Don't Leave Me Alone," the singer expresses her frustration and sadness over being involved with a man who is already in a committed relationship. The lyrics reveal her feelings of betrayal and her desire to have a meaningful relationship with someone who is devoted to her. She questions why he thinks she will wait for him forever when they both know he will never leave his current partner. The singer expresses her desire for a happy family life that she cannot have with this man. She even speaks about her moral conscience and her inability to continue the affair, as it is not right for any of them.

The chorus emphasizes her demand for the man to leave her alone if he is not going to truly commit to her. She reminds him that she does not want to share his love and does not want to be involved in any of his relationship problems. The powerful lyrics show her strength and determination to stand up for herself and not let herself be used by someone who cannot give her what she needs.

The bridge highlights the everyday routine of the week and how their relationship is not worth the effort if it is just for one day. The singer questions the purpose of their affair as it does not seem to have any real meaning or long-term potential.

Overall, the song showcases the singer's inner turmoil in a relationship that is not healthy or fulfilling. She demands respect, honesty, and a true commitment from her partner, or else she will not continue to tolerate the affair.

Excellent !

I played in Joe's band in Buckeye, AZ. Played this song with him many times, but he recorded it before I joined him.

@Bart Ambrose Well that certainly helps. Thanks a lot sir!

@Rocka-billy the kid I would guess we played it in key of A (it was a long time ago). The instrumental part was basically a knockoff of Duane Eddy's Ramrod, so playing those open strings would have given it the twang factor.

Any chance you remember how you played it? Like what key and where the licks were and stuff?

Jesper Gustafsson

Nice one!
