SUMMER
Joe Hisaishi;London Symphony Orchestra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Left blooming alone
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone
No flow'are of her kindred
No rosebud is nigh
To reflect back her blushes
I'll not leave thee thou lone one
To pine on the stern
Since the lovely are sleeping
Go sleep thou with them
Thus kindly I'll scatter
Thy leaves o'er the bed
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead
So soon may I follow
When friendships decay
And from love's shining circle
The gems drop away
When true hearts lie wither'd
And fond ones are flow'n
Oh! who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?
The song "Summer" by Joe Hisaishi with the London Symphony Orchestra starts with the lyric "Tis the last rose of summer, left blooming alone. All her lovely companions are faded and gone." The lyrics use the metaphor of a flower to express feelings of loneliness, isolation, and loss. The singer begins by acknowledging the flower's unique situation, being the last of its kind in bloom. They recognize that the flower's companions are gone and it stands alone. Then, the lyrics suggest that there is no one to understand or mirror the flower's beauty or beauty in general, which is symbolized by reflecting back the flower's blushes. The singer is saying that there is no one left who is also beautiful or unique.
Later in the song, the lyrics turn into a soliloquy to the flower suggesting that they will not leave the solitary flower it to languish in its isolation but will join it in sleep. They offer to give the same kindness that they give the flower to all beauty that fades. The singer then talks about friendships and love and how they can also wither away, and how people can feel isolated and alone in the world. The song suggests that it is better to go to sleep in the company of loved ones and beauty than to be left standing alone.
Line by Line Meaning
'Tis the last rose of summer
It is the final rose of the summer season
Left blooming alone
The rose continues to bloom by itself
All her lovely companions
All of the other flowers that were once with her
Are faded and gone
Have withered and disappeared
No flow'are of her kindred
There are no other roses like her
No rosebud is nigh
There are no new buds nearby
To reflect back her blushes
There is no flower to share her beauty with
Or give sigh for sigh
Or mourn with her for the loss of her companions
I'll not leave thee thou lone one
I will not abandon you, the only one left
To pine on the stern
To suffer in sadness
Since the lovely are sleeping
Since the other beautiful flowers have passed
Go sleep thou with them
Join them in eternal rest
Thus kindly I'll scatter
This is how I will lovingly spread
Thy leaves o'er the bed
Your leaves over the flower bed
Where thy mates of the garden
Where your companions in the garden
Lie scentless and dead
Are now lifeless and without fragrance
So soon may I follow
Soon, I too may follow their fate
When friendships decay
As my friends and relationships diminish
And from love's shining circle
And as love begins to fade away
The gems drop away
The precious things in life start to disappear
When true hearts lie wither'd
When honest and genuine people wither away
And fond ones are flow'n
And loved ones have left
Oh! who would inhabit
Oh! Who would want to live
This bleak world alone?
In this gloomy and desolate world all by oneself?

@darkspawn1270
How can they even play this without getting emotional?
@victorlinares4137
when actually playing it, you somehow feel in touch with the song and your emotions don't show. or at least that's what happened to me when i play it. Listening to it gives back that emotion
@ZippehJr

Debussy's Claire de Lune and Joe Hisaishi's One Summer's Day.
When you need to grieve or just be by yourself for a time. When you miss your mother and father and hate the pain. Or maybe, just to have a good cry.
Romance is not dead. It lives inside of all of us. It wishes to spring free and scream.................I love you.
Thank you Claude and thank you Joe.
