You Made Me Love You
Joe Loss & His Orchestra Lyrics

I didn't want to do it
I didn't want to do it
You made me want you
And all the time you knew it
I guess you always knew it
You made me happy sometimes
But there were times
You made me feel so bad
You made me cry for
I didn't want to tell you
I didn't want to tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do
You know I do
Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses
That I'd die for
You know you made me love you
You made me cry for
I didn't want to tell you
I didn't want to tell you
I want some love that's true
Yes, I do, 'deed I do
You know I do
Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme what I cry for
You know you've got the brand of kisses
That I'd die for
You know you made me love you
The lyrics of You Made Me Care by Joe Loss & His Orchestra are a poetic expression of a conflicted heart that has fallen in love unwillingly. The opening lines, "You made me love you, I didn't want to do it," establish the singer's reluctance to fall in love, and the repeated phrases "I didn't want to do it" and "I guess you always knew it" heighten the sense of resistance. However, the second verse shows that the love interest has also made the singer happy and glad, but also sometimes sad. The phrase "You made me feel so bad" highlights the complexity of emotions that come with falling in love.
The subsequent lines, "You made me cry for, I didn't want to tell you," reveal that the singer's emotions and feelings are not easily controlled. The chorus of the song contains an explicit request for the love that is true, while the final lines, "you know you've got the brand of kisses that I'd die for, you know you made me love you," confirm that the singer's love is real, despite initial reluctance.
Overall, the lyrics of You Made Me Care are a poignant reflection of the process of falling in love, complete with its highs and lows, and the unexpected nature of this most powerful human emotion.

My grandfather has just gone into a retirement home with Alzheimers and I was asked from my dad if there was anything i would like to take from his bungalow as a keep sake. I asked for his handmade piano stall and sheet music. Amongst the pile i'm currently sifting through is 4 original sheets with autographs of 'Joe Loss and his band' - thats how i ended up here just now. . .

Absolutely wonderful !! 5* I had this great song some years ago, but I can't recall exactly who sang it. It could have been Ella Fitzgerald. I love this post, and thank you for sharing it.

Corrie, I think you are referring to Vera Lynn.
