In The Mood
Joe Loss and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm in the mood for love
Simply because you're near me.
Funny, but when you're near me
I'm in the mood for love.

Heaven is in your eyes
Bright as the stars we're under
Oh! Is it any wonder
I'm in the mood for love?

Why stop to think of whether
This little dream might fade?
We've put our hearts together
Now we are one, I'm not afraid!

If there's a cloud above
If it should rain we'll let it

But for tonight, forget it!
I'm in the mood for love

Overall Meaning

The song "In the Mood" by Joe Loss and His Orchestra is a love song that expresses the feeling of being in love with someone. The opening line, "I'm in the mood for love," conveys a sense of excitement and anticipation, which is further emphasized by the repetition of the phrase "I'm in the mood for love" throughout the song. The singer is in love with someone who is close to him, and being around this person brings out the best in him. This feeling is captured in the line, "Simply because you're near me."

The next verse speaks to the beauty of the person the singer is in love with. The line, "Heaven is in your eyes," suggests that this person has a divine quality that dazzles the singer. The two lovers are under the stars, which adds to the romantic atmosphere. The singer wonders if it's any wonder that he's in the mood for love. It's clear that he's completely smitten with this person.

The final verse is about the power of love to overcome any obstacles. The singer says that they don't need to worry about the future or any setbacks that might come their way. They've put their hearts together, so they are one now, and nothing can come between them. The final lines suggest that even if there are clouds in the sky or rain falling, they won't let it dampen their spirits. For tonight, they're only concerned with being together and enjoying their love.

This tune gets imprinted into my brain! I whistle it everyday. Would have loved to be dancing to this in the hay day, might have to try and find somewhere to today.

@alanwitton5039

Great recording! I'm mystified as to why he didn't have a signature tune written for the band though!

@ComptonLodgeStudios

Interesting thought Alan - Maybe he thought he didn't need one? - PAUL.

@alanwitton5039

@@ComptonLodgeStudios quite possibly! It doesn't detract from the quality of the recording or the music or indeed the band itself! Excellent band and I've always admired Joe and his band!

@@alanwitton5039 Thanks again - My Dad was a big fan of Joe!

@alanwitton5039

@@ComptonLodgeStudios my father was too bless him and it was he who got me into listening to big bands! Though to be honest from the mid to late 70s onwards I became more interested in the modern jazz orientated big bands like Stan Kenton Don Ellis etc
