Walker was born on 25th December 1949 in San Francisco, California; his parents were blues fans, and introduced him to the music when he was young. He learnt to play the guitar at the age of fourteen, and left home at sixteen to work as a performer. He soon met Mike Bloomfield, who introduced him to the Bay Area Blues scene. During the 1960s, Walker opened for such artists as Earl Hooker, Freddie King, and Lowell Fulson.
In 1975 he left the blues scene for ten years to sing with a gospel quartet called The Spiritual Corinthians. In 1980, he recorded an album with this group called God Will Provide. Walker left the Spiritual Corinthians in 1985, but has maintained a gospel influence in his music.
He returned to San Francisco in 1985, and formed a group called the Bosstalkers. He released four albums on the Hightone Records label before moving to Verve/Gitanes (a division of Polydor/Polygram). Walker released six albums with this label, and won a series of awards in the 1990s.
Walker has released several albums since leaving Verve, including four separate works between 2002 and 2003.

Ride All Night
Joe Louis Walker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That is something changed
I hear it in your voice
When you call my name
We gotta get away
Just me and you
Forget about yesterday
We gonna ride, yeah
We gonna ride all night
Gonna ride all night
We gotta move it all down the lot, alright
Alright, we gonna ride all night
Baby, hold on tight
'Cause we gonna ride all night
When tomorrow comes
We'll be still hanging strong
Within fifty is good
It just can't be wrong
Head for the wild, wild west
Across the desert sands
Spend the night in the canyon top
Out in nowhere land
We gonna ride all night
We gonna ride all night
We gonna ride all night
We gotta move it all down the lot, alright
Alright, we gonna ride all night
Baby, hold on tight
'Cause we gonna ride, ride
Ride all night, alright
Get out on the highway, baby
Take it in a while
No matter where we going, girl
You know we, we gonna make it there
We gonna ride
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
We gonna ride all night, ride alright
Baby, gonna hold me tight
We gonna ride, ride, ride, ride alright
Alright, baby, come and hold me tight
We gotta ride, come on, baby
Yeah, yeah, yeah, alright, alright, alright
I said, "Baby, baby, baby, won't you hold me tight?"
The lyrics of Joe Louis Walker's song Ride All Night express a longing for escape from the mundane routine of life. The singer seems to have noticed a change in his partner's behavior, and wants to take her away to a different place where they can forget about the past and focus on enjoying the present moment. The lyrics describe a desire to ride all night with the singer's partner, to leave all their worries behind and simply enjoy the freedom of the road.
The song is filled with energy and a sense of adventure, with references to the "wild, wild west" and the "desert sands." The lyrics suggest a desire to break free from constraints and experience something new and exciting. In this way, the song can be seen as a celebration of the freedom that comes with travel, and a call to embrace new experiences and seek out adventure in life.
