"First off, in case you can't tell we're brothers. We were both born in Sydney, Australia and we've been around music basically since birth. Our Dad was a music promoter and record label owner and introduced us to an eclectic variety of live shows during our growing up years, from acts such as pop star Amy Grant to heavy-metal group Stryper (Good stuff!). For both of us music has always been the natural backdrop of our lives...
In 1991 our Dad got offered a job in Nashville, TN. So with our mum pregnant and our four siblings (so that makes six, without including the baby on the way) we grabbed sixteen bags and moved to the US... Since then, apart from school and playing sport we've travelled with various artists all over America and the world singing BGV's and running different aspects of their lives shows. We're now 22 (Joel) and 20 (Luke) and have over the last year and a half been writing, performing, and working on music as a duo.
Music is more than just a gig to us. It somehow has the uncanny ability to speak to the heart, and we believe it should be used to convey a positive message. Life is a journey full of ups and downs and we want to write about the real things that we're going through and hopefully others in our generation will be encouraged that someone else struggles with the same issues that they do. We also want to write music that resonates with people... music that speaks about real life issues, whether that means telling about our honest struggles, asking unanswered questions, or talking about relationships. The truth is that we write what we're walking through at the time and our hope is that this will be an encouragement to others and something they can relate to."
Without Love
Joel & Luke Lyrics

Was I quiet enough?
I was trying to make plans
To make you proud I'm your man
Are you broken inside?
Has the cold taken hold?
I've been up since half five
I think everything's fine
But if we're honest this time
I'd say love is hard enough without the winter
Good morning my dear
How much of that did you hear?
I was sparring with myself
Spilling coffee from the shelf
When you see others in love
Does it ever feel like a shove?
I love that when I can't sleep
You're always also struggling with me
I think everything's fine
But if we're honest this time
I'd say love is hard enough without the winter
I think everything's fine
But if we're honest next time
I'd say love is hard enough without
Love is hard enough without
Love is hard enough without the winter
The lyrics to Joel & Luke's song Without Love are an introspective and intimate conversation between two lovers who are trying to navigate the difficulties of maintaining a loving relationship amidst the challenges of life. The opening lines, "Good morning my love, was I quiet enough?" suggest a tender and caring dynamic between the couple, with one partner being considerate of the other's peace and comfort. The lyrics go on to reveal the singer's attempts at being a good partner by "trying to make plans to make you proud," and by waking up early to make up for lost time.
However, the lyrics take a somber turn as the couple questions the state of their relationship with the lines "Are you broken inside? Has the cold taken hold?" The singer is acutely aware of the challenges of navigating love, particularly in the winter, which is often associated with coldness and emotional isolation. Despite these challenges, the singer asserts that love is still worth fighting for, even in the midst of difficulty, with the chorus repeating the line "love is hard enough without the winter."
Overall, Without Love is a poignant reminder of the complexities of love, and the need to cultivate compassion, grace, and empathy in our relationships. It reveals the highs and lows of loving and being loved, while also highlighting the importance of striving to understand and support our partners amidst the challenges of life.
