FAR AWAY
Joel Vaughn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So many nights where I can barely sleep,
The world alive, but I can't find my peace,
I feel like you're so far away from me.

I know the joy of you inside my heart,
I see the grand design and all the stars,
But I can't help but feel the distance.
Why is the moon so

Far away, Far away,
I feel so small in all you are.
Far away, Far away,
I feel so small in all you are.
I can't reach the stars.

I can see the galaxys at night,
And in the void of space, they shine so bright,
I get the sense there's more than you and I.

Now this disease of self draws me further in,
'Till I'm crippled by the weight of sin,
You took it all upon yourself
And you sent it

Far away, so far away,
It's further than the edge of space.
Far away, so far away,
It's further than the edge of space.
You're takin' it all away.

Cause you and I were made for so much more.
As your world collides, see the beauty that's in store.

He's not far away, far away,
Our hope is here, amazing grace.
Far away, far away,

Our hope is here, amazing grace.
Amazing grace.

Overall Meaning

In Joel Vaughn's song "Far Away," he expresses his struggle with feeling distant from God despite knowing He exists. The opening lines convey how the world appears alive and bustling with activity, but the singer cannot find peace within himself. He says that it feels like God is far away from him, though he knows the joy of God inside his heart and can see the grand design of the universe. Despite this, he cannot help but feel the distance.

The second verse of the song brings in a sense of isolation as the singer talks about seeing the galaxies at night and feeling that there must be more to the universe than him and God. He then says that his selfish desires further pushed him away from God, but God took it all upon Himself and sent it far away. Thus, despite feeling alone and small, he realizes that he and God were made for so much more.

The chorus repeats the phrase "far away" to stress the distance that the singer feels from God. The second half of the chorus has a twist where the lyrics say that God is taking it all away instead of being far away. The final chorus adds in the message of hope that God is not far away and that our hope is here with God's amazing grace.
