This was definitly my favorite song to sing! I was a tenor 2 and had some pretty high notes, but it was the best!

I love the Soprano I line at 2:34 (measures 104-108). I also wish you could hear the baritones more at 2:24 (measure 97). The Bass II's rocked it, but we were a little quiet. I sang it loudly... so I know I did my part lol.

Enjoyed this very much. Yeah, there are some obvious shortcomings, but it's worth keeping in mind that some of the muddiness at least can be attributed to the inadequate recording technology employed. All in all, a lively and genuinely moving performance.

I am going to be auditioning for the Bach Choir of Bethlehem Pa and bach definitly is something that you have to work at and not wing. I have sung with very high calibre groups and I completly concur with what others have said about orchastras nearly hijacking a performance. I am also a percussionist and practice like crazy so that it becomes like breathing.

The choir was mostly together, except for one part that I heard. The main problem was the orchestra being behind! That killed me! To this day I don't understand why professional musicians only sightread. Working ahead of time on a song like this would have made it perfect.

I know I've commented before, but I just have to say the Master would have been thrilled by this performance.

a clear, consistent, light ictus in the conducting gesture would have solved most of the issues in this performance. Also, relaxing the tempo at the beginning (which happened naturally throughout the piece) would have better served this large ensemble better. Still an amazing accomplishment for these talented high school singers!

John Carter

As good as any performance on Youtube.

For the record, I'm not placing the blame entirely on the orchestra. But in the end, it was still a great performance. That song was hard, and organizing all of those people to sing/play something that crazy in a semi-coherent manner is no easy task.

Is there a CD recording of this performance?
