The fact that the story behind this piece such a heartbreaking. Bach wrote this piece after his wife died. Hilary nailed this piece. She really put her emotion on playing. I could say, Hilary's version is the best one

Agreed! The 1978 version's last part was really horrible, there one was no emotion behind it, or so that's how I felt at least.

Aurélie Beckers

I agree, but I also think Perlmans version is really beautiful

I seem to think women in general put more emotion into music than men, per say ?! Men focus on the technical and women pour emotion ! Look into the male and female forces of the universe and you will see why i think this. And then listen to Paulina play concerto no.1 for harpsichord on the piano its another example of the womans touch of emotion !!..... I love that piece in the middle, it feels as if it can alter the speed of time itself !!

@Dark One indeed. Not to forget Tchaik piano concerto 1 by Anna Federova. But mad respect to arthur rubinstein also put emotion at his playing

Dark One

@fath. Thanks i will look that up ! There are a few guys that have feminine qualities but they are probably gay and that's not a bad thing, look at Elton John it made him famous?

J.S. Bach is most often considered a master of the fugue as a composition form, but he is also a master of the theme and variation. I cannot tell which of the variations in this Chaconne is the most poignant, most beautiful, most perfectly executed. I'm stunned by this performance.

Me!

the chanonne is still highly contrapuntal which was what bach was a beast at

My favorite is the arpeggio bit after the fast/high 32

@Me! True. I have heard people speak of a horizontal and vertical plane in Bach's work.
