I can't even imagine how they must have felt when they found out that Jeff killed Melinda. It would be absolutely terrible to be in Anna´s place knowing that your soon-to-be husband killed your mother. I am so sorry for her and the whole family. Jeff is a horrible person and I hope he never gets justice because he doesn't deserve any. Especially the part that Kylie witnessed all that and had to stay in the same house with her dying mother without even understanding what happened really broke my heart. What an evil human. It just goes to show you you never know someone. My sweet girl was murdered by her boyfriend, along with her nephew. He was always nice and polite to me, and was welcomed in my home. I never in a million years thought he would kill her. He will of course spend the rest of his life in jail, but that is no comfort for those two not being here.

The most heartbreaking part of this for me is poor Kyle. My Uncle has an Intellectual disability and when my grandfather, his dad, passed away it took us literally years until he understood he was never coming home. It was so confusing for him and an open wound for us every time he would ask. I feel for them and hope they are all okay.

The police really did 'drop the ball', after so many calls from the same address over two years, you'd think maybe they would've been clever about it and had an unmarked police car at least watch the property or maybe tell the family to put cameras or something! When you first said how many times she was stabbed, and then shot, I knew if was Jeff who killed her. You don't go overkill on someone unless you know them, and absolutely hate them. This was a mixture of premeditation and crime of passion. Over a year of setting it all up, biding his time until he could finally make a move... that's just crazy. If you didn't like her, don't live with her.

Were the Strongsville police unaware of the existence of security cameras ? The only suggestion they had for the family was ,”Call us back if they show up again” ? Did no one in the family realize EVERY square foot in the country is watched by a security camera except THEIR house? Was Jeff ever AGAINST buying security cameras? In the county where I grew up, every "zone" (as set by the department) had a zone book with all of the areas of concern and all of the areas that had requested an EP, or "extra patrol". That book was passed along either between shifts or sometime into the next shift, so that the people who needed extra eyes on their home or business could feel a little safer.

Unfortunately, I already figured it out before I watched the video. The moment he said they welcomed the boyfriend into the home, gave me serious red flags. It didn't help that he seemed to never be around. This is so heartbreaking. I can only imagine the pain the daughter went through- she thought she could trust the guy and he committed this act and doing it in the other room with Kyle and the baby! What broke my heart even more was the grandpa calling the police and saying they failed him. That poor family. I hope they are able to heal. His sentence should have been life without the chance of parole.

What I love about Mr Ballen goes beyond his mastery of story telling. Of course I’m a comment reader and even though we’re are all tuned in to hear about the strange, dark and mysterious. Its so refreshing not to see a bunch of negative comments from trolls. His fan base is always very positive. I don’t think I’ve ever read a negative comment our review.

I’m half way through the video and heavily disappointed in the police at the fact they’re still just asking them to call if anything happens.. instead of taking precautionary measures. This has reoccurred plenty times of them trying to break in, instead of the police waiting for more break-in’s to happen they should of setup a plan. No one in the family noticed Jeff may have acted strange at times? How could he have such hatred toward Melinda and kept it hidden? He must have been one hell of an actor. And he had some type of "criminal intelligence" if he had people stalk their backyard and rattle the back doors. That's premeditation. I know it's a petty grievance but after watching countless videos like this and dealing with 911 operators myself on a number of occasions, I can't fathom the rhyme or reason for dispatchers' callous indifference to suffering. They always seem annoyed with callers who are almost certainly at one of the most traumatic moments of their lives.

I worked as a dispatcher for animal services. After doing it for a while and receiving multiple calls of animals that are sick, dying, or injured, you have to distance yourself from what is happening on the phone or it will tear you down emotionally. Dispatching, police and animal services, is a very emotionally draining job. You sit for 8 - 10 hours for various calls 5 days a week for however many months or years, you have to learn to build a wall to protect yourself.

It's really common for many to do things like this. When I was doing my criminology studies, I read a lot about how most people who escaped jail were caught very quickly afterwards. The main reason for this is that all of the planning energy goes into the escape, and very little into the "staying escaped". Two reasons for this: in both cases, the murder/escape is considered the "goal", so not a lot of thought is given to afterwards. The other reason is that the very thing that often makes people murderers/need to go to jail is one-step thinking, ie, the inability to think from b to c, or long-term. So the short-term goal looms heavily in the mind instead. There's also a lot of psychology unique to English speakers and how our language structure doesn't easily allow for long-term "in the future" planning, and how our language informs both our cultural mores and our brains, but that's an entire research paper in its own. :)

The fact that he was willing to even hurt his fiance and his own child, putting them through 2 years of terror before he murdered her is insane to me. The brutality in his actions is unimaginable. Kyle eagerly looking out the restaurant window for his mother every time he and his family eat out just rips my heart into shreds. I’m literally crying just thinking about it. That and how he must have seen his mother dying in a pool of her own blood and not understood that she wasn’t ever “waking up” again. This just hits too close to home for me. I have a cousin with Down Syndrome and though he is verbal and can communicate very well, when his father, my uncle, took his own life, he really didn’t understand it fully. My heart breaks for Kyle, and for the rest of the family having to deal with this huge loss.

I'm actually hoping that the assumption that Kyle doesn't understand is correct. The rest of the family will never get over what Jeff did to them. I had an aunt who had Down Syndrome. Sometimes it was difficult to tell what she really understood, and what she didn't.

This is horrendous but the saddest part is that Kyle is waiting, even though deep down inside he must realize he hasn’t seen mommy in so long but due to his condition he just keeps his hope alive it must be torture for him. When my brother was killed i knew he was gone but I couldn’t help but hope he would walk through that door. This is heart breaking. They are reminded everyday of her loss a senseless killing. Their hearts ripped to shreds every time poor Kyle asks for his mama.

I felt the same way as this family. When you bring someone into your house and suddenly there are few things change, those are red flags.
In my case, it was the family maid. She moved with us in 2014. Then my uncle passed in 2015 after being taken care in our house. In 2017, my niece passed on christmas eve, then my Mother passed exactly a year ago. After, my mom passed away with covid. We got her medical record that stated she had typhoid, the same desease my Uncle and my niece got before they passed when our house(except her room) are cleaned on daily basis. It was crazy when you never got this type of desease and sudenly it was prominent.
I realized that all these times it was her, who made the soups and porridges prior to their deaths. My breaking point was when it was her who 'saw' my mother passed away. I knew right away there were something wrong with all of these and fired her. We were just too naive and trusting. When I evaluate all the things to every deaths, everything seems to pointed out on her. She was on a verbal fight with my aunt(my belated uncle's wife) over my uncle's cloths she wore. Then with my sister in law, over her being too close to her children. Lastly, my mother yelled at her daughter last year over her sending text to my Dad demanding salary raise, which we found way over the line, unethical, since my mother was their employer. I put the pieces together and she had motives to poison us with rat's urine. I had typhoid in early 2017. Prior to that, my Mom, confronted her over taking my TV and clothes into her bedroom. Now it all made sense.
I could not bring my heart up to file charges against her, because it would never bring my loved ones back. Moreover, there are literally no stronger evidences that can be used to file charge at her.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that melinda saw right through pos jeff and didn't really approve but still helped out of the kindness of her heart. She was probably harder on him for his failures than others and expected more responsibility, being a teacher and a parent of a special needs boy and all. However, even with that kindness, mothers tend to talk to their daughters and console their daughters through relationship problems. He probably got his feewings hurt by her telling truths and probably blamed any and all problems him and their daughter had on her.
OR.. MAYBE.. Melinda caught onto him causing all the harassment and terrorizing them. Maybe he had someone from the venue as one of the people and they were pissed and let it slip. Or maybe she overheard him talking on the phone about it.

Heartbroken for the family, Melinda’s son who doesn’t understand that she’s gone and still expects to see her places is devastating, as is the fact that Anna’s mum was murdered by her own fiancé, the thought of her trying to explain that to her child, and the fact he killed his own child’s grandmother. He put the whole family through 2 years of hell, people he was supposed to love the most, and wouldn’t even have the decency to explain why he did any of it. I hope the family is getting all the support possible, my thoughts truly go out to them.

Absolutely heartbreaking that their special needs son can't understand why his mother isn't there anymore. My heart aches for him, he may never be able to process or recover from that. Everyday, his mother is taken from him again. And again. And again.
I thought I knew what grief was, but I can't imagine the pain that he and his family feel, nevermind the immeasurable guilt they must have at knowing the attacker was invited into their home freely and none of them suspected he was so close to their home and hearts.

Some people feel they have no way out and have to do it because they think they thought of everything in a place where police are not congratulated a lot.
He slipped up in the beginning by making statements of people smoking by the property but no evidence of that was found.
Being the last person to see her alive made him No 1 suspect.
Thinking he will never be suspected doesnt get rid of the evidence in his car. The only thing that can actually convict him no matter what police thought.

I had a feeling it was connected to the son in law all along. Always look at what else is new when something new starts happening. Example strangers suddenly hanging around new event, son in law moved in, new event. They're almost always connected, in my experience.

I've called emergency alot over the years and every time they sound like it's a complete inconvenience like how dare i call emergency for an emergency.

I expect scripted questions cause that's how they get information the fastest but instead of professional and calm which is what they are ment to be for some reason they always have an attitude.

If the job pisses you off that much just quit, the last thing a person in an emergency situation needs is some operator with an attitude, it's not hard to be professional and calm and empathetic unless of course you lack empathy.

They actually have a specific script they have to follow. They get in tons of trouble if they do not follow it exactly. A lot of the stuff mayb stupid and what not but the questions get them to the correct screen to give the correct advice till the police or ems come.

Jeff like most murders was clearly a narcissist. He had more than enough of an opportunity to burn his bloody clothes and throw the knofe in a river and he totally would’ve gotten away with this. Don’t get me wrong I am really happy he was a narcissist so the family could realize that there was a wolf in sheeps clothing among them.
