“Amplify is a daring record with an overall vision to avoid the rut that North American reggae bands often find themselves unable to climb out of…the sound of a band recreated, retooled and refreshed.” - Exclaim Magazine [Canada]
“JBB is an eight-piece outfit that delivers some of the most forward-thinking reggae music in the world today.” - LA2DAY
“Amplify is some of the most invigorating, progressive reggae released in some time.” - All About Jazz
“Amplify is tight, well-produced and thought-provoking.” - Revue
“Instead of relying on traditional foundations to create their songs, Martin takes the band’s old world foundation and builds a complex and multi-genre crossbreed that places the band squarely on the forefront of the world music arena.” - Sentimentalist Magazine
“Amplify …. fuses Kweli-like beats with Massive Attack funk…Invokes the tripped-up rhythms of Radiohead” - Weekly Dig [Boston]
“…the band’s energy is soaked up and spread out in all the right places, never allowing Amplify to slow down and catch its breath. A heck of an achievement…” - Glide Magazine
“Their stage presence is something to be witnessed. No member goes unnoticed. The bassist moves to his steady beats. A focused drummer‚ bouncing keyboardist‚ and a grooving guitar player make up the colorful background. Adding to all that are three intense horn players moving and grooving up front along with an emotive‚ charismatic lead singer leaving no shortage of visual stimulus onstage.” - State Of Mind

Step Inside
John Brown's Body Lyrics

Come one and all got to make the dancehall tight
Look at the daughter wear the dress so bright
Oh and it feels so right
So many people step inside step inside
Come one and all got to make the dancehall tight
Look at the shotta now they hail the dubwise
Oh and it feels so right
So come inside clear the house of the static
Make it electric and become automatic
We bring the motion to the waves and we crash it
Light up the chalice make it blaze hurry pass it
Nuff kings and queens here stepping in here tonight
One rice and peas and a stout extra size
Bright eyed gal next to me is the prize
So wine up your blessed thighs
Listen free your energy and pull up your hand
One little rudeboy could dash way a dance
The wicked never want to see innocent
People pushing forward again
One spark fire in the room it's no wonder
New boss sound that began with thunder
A lick of one Barrington Levy song make a gunman cool his sound
Chorus
Cry out louder so the DJ will know it
Replay the sound and keep the good times rolling
Everyone has just a minute to show so
Hold high and make sure that your lighter is glowing
We preaching from the pulpit
Don't reach or fall into the bottomless pit
Run come quick we rock JBB music
Listen to better love and choose it
Look at the people in the light with me sing
Save a life give them what they need
We can receive what the skies couldn't reach
That new riddim can carry me
Out in the streets the dance is reaching
And the dread bawl forward, hear it
Oh can we dance slowly? Girl come cool me down
So come inside hear the drums and the bassie play
We gonna break in a new style flashing a dub plate
My woman have a rhythm she give me in every way
Removing the fears and the pain
Tunes we sing we'll never let die
Sattamassagana or Africa Unite
Whole heap of the people and together we speak
Everyone of them dance sweet
The song "Step Inside" by John Brown's Body is a call for people to come and join the party at the dancehall. The lyrics encourage everyone to come inside and make the dancehall tight. The singer urges the people to clear away the static, make the dancehall electric, and become automatic. They want everyone to free their energy, pull up their hands, and dance without any restrictions. The song creates a lively atmosphere and encourages listeners to enjoy themselves.
The song mentions different people at the dancehall, such as the daughter wearing a bright dress and the shotta who hails the dubwise. The lyrics also mention the rice and peas and the stout extra size, which are Jamaican food and drink choices. The song references several Jamaican music icons, such as the reggae singer Barrington Levy and the Rastafarian chant of Sattamassagana. The song also mentions Africa Unite, which is a phrase coined by Bob Marley to encourage African unity.

I love this song...very nice sound. I'm thinking I might catch them at The Haunt in Ithaca on Jan 30th. I go every Wednesday night to The Dock for reggae night. It's always some
permutation of JBB, Giant Panda, Mosaic Foundation, etc. ALWAYS a good time...they
bring it week after week. I feel very fortunate to be able to enjoy them so often.
Btw...great energy from the band...very warm and open with the crowd (vice versa, of course).
