I'm Old Fashioned
John Coltrane Lyrics

I am not such a clever one
About the latest fads
I admit I was never one
Adored by local lads
Not that I ever try to be a saint
I'm the type that they classify as quaint
I'm old fashioned
I love the moonlight
I love the old fashioned things
The sound of rain
Upon a window pane
The starry song that April sings
This year's fancies
Are passing fancies
But sighing sighs holding hands
These my heart understands
I know I'm old fashioned
But I don't mind it
That's how I want to be
As long as you agree
To stay old fashioned with me

I'm old fashioned
But I don't mind it
That's how I want to be
As long as you agree
To stay old fashioned with me
Oh won't you stay old fashioned with me
Oh please stay old fashioned with me

So true!

... and so, my adoration and love for "Dr." James Carter, the 21st-century virtuoso of unmatched technical prowess, move me to suggest to him (JC) to heed your advice and put it into effect during his every performance.

Among other qualities John Coltrane expressed were emotions and spiritual "haunting" which were a few of his Trump Cards, so to speak.

Speed and technical skills are great - even greater still.

However, the greatest asset for especially an artist - vocalist and Instrumentalist alike - is the EMOTIONAL display.

Great thought!

James Carter and Chris Potter... "baddest" dudes, some Emotion and Spirituality, please!

@Postatility ...'Trane wasn't the first one who made that statement.

It was Coltrane himself who said" Music is the healing force of the Universe"

Your not "old fashioned" good music is just timeless.

This brings me back to a time when things were so simple in my life.  When I was a kid (and still today), I lived for the weekends.   Saturday mornings, me and my brothers would eat big bowls of cereal, watch our cartoons, then go outside and play.  But Sunday mornings, my parents would put on their Jazz records and cook a big breakfast and we'd all sit down and eat together, laugh, talk and listen to the music.  Those were some of the happiest, carefree times of my life.
