He recorded and performed primarily with an acoustic guitar and sang about his joy in nature, his disdain for city life, his enthusiasm for music, and his relationship trials. Denver's music appeared on a variety of charts, including country music, the Billboard Hot 100, and adult contemporary, in all earning him twelve gold and four platinum albums with his signature songs "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Annie's Song", "Rocky Mountain High", "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", and "Sunshine on My Shoulders".
Denver starred in films and several notable television specials in the 1970s and 1980s. He continued to record in the 1990s, also focusing on environmental issues by lending vocal support to space exploration and testifying in front of Congress in protest against censorship in music. He lived in Aspen, Colorado for much of his life and was known for his love of Colorado which he sang about numerous times. In 1974 Denver was named poet laureate of the state. The Colorado state legislature also adopted "Rocky Mountain High" as one of its two state songs in 2007. Denver was an avid pilot and died at the age of 53 in a single-fatality crash of his personal experimental aircraft.
Perhaps love
John Denver Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home
Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don't know what to do
The memory of love will see you through
Oh, love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel
For some a way of living
For some a way to feel
And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go
And some say love is everything
And some say they don't know
Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of change
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you
John Denver's song Perhaps Love is a beautiful contemplation on the nature of love. The first verse of the song talks about how love is like a resting place, like shelter from a storm. It exists to give comfort and warmth to those who need it most. In times of trouble and loneliness, the memory of love can bring a person back home. The second verse of the song describes love as a window, inviting us to come closer and explore more. Even if we lose ourselves and feel uncertain, the memory of love can help us see our way through.
The chorus of the song expands on the many facets of love, from different people's perspective. For some, love is like a cloud, ephemeral and ever-changing. For others, it is as strong as steel, a way of living or a way of feeling. Some say love is about holding on, while others believe it is about letting go. To some, love is everything, but for others, it remains a mystery. The final verse of the song compares love to the ocean - full of conflict and change. Love is like a fire that warms us up when it's cold outside, or like thunder during a heavy rainstorm. The song concludes with an elegiac tone, as the singer suggests that if they were to live forever and realize all their dreams, their memories of love would always be of the person they love.
Overall, John Denver's Perhaps Love is a poignant and reflective song about the many dimensions of love. Love is not one-dimensional, but rather a multifaceted emotion that can be both a source of comfort and strength. It is simultaneously fleeting and enduring, and its nature cannot be easily pinned down.

Hey J Parker, Sorry to hear you're having these issues. Would you mind please emailing our support team an example album or track to support [at] sonichits.com?
J Parker
SonicHits just gets worse and worse. Albums that don't play, songs that don't play, tracks that are NOT the named song or even the right artist, adverts that cover content and cause the site to interrupt and buffer inthe middle of songs. I've got to find a better music site!

My Father had Alzheimers and shortly before he died he wanted to hear this song, he sang the chorus to me and I remembered the album growing up. I found it on You Tube and sat beside his hospital bed and played it over and over. He sang it to me and it is a memory that I cannot find words to describe. When I sit and think of my Father I put this video on and listen to this beautiful song.

I sung this to my son as he was dying of cancer. I wanted to sing him out. I sang some of his favorite songs to him right before I had to leave the room so they could take Chad off the respirator. Chad was 22.❤️
