A Little More Love
John Farrar Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Night is draggin' her feet
I wait alone in the heat
I know know that you have your way
'Til you have to go home.
"No" 's a word I can't say.

But it gets me nowhere to tell you "no"
It gets me nowhere to make you go
Will a little more love make you
Star depending
Will a little more love
Bring a happy ending
Will a little more love make it right
Will a little more love make it right.

Where did my innocence go
How, how was a young girl to know
I'm trapped, trapped in the spell of your eyes
In the warmth of your arms
In the web of your lies.

But it gets me nowhere to tell you "no"

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "A Little More Love" by John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, and Anthony Warlow speak about unrequited love and the longing for a little more affection from the person one loves. The opening lines describe the wait for someone who has the ability to control the situation, and the inability to refuse them. The singer is trapped in a situation where they do not have agency or power, and they can only hope for a little more love from their beloved to make things right.

The chorus talks about the singer's desperation for a little more love. They wonder if their beloved will start depending on them more if they receive a little more love, or if it will bring a happy ending to their love story. These questions are raised out of a sense of insecurity and the fear of losing their love interest. In the second verse, the singer questions where their innocence has gone and how they were too young to understand the complexities of love, but they are now trapped in the spell of their love interest's eyes, warmth, and lies. The final lines reiterate the pointlessness of saying "no" as it gets them nowhere, and all they can hope for is a little more love to make things right.

The song is a question in the context of
a difficult relationship.
"A little more love" could "make it right",
however, may not resolve a relationship
with a guy weaving a "web of lies".

Thank you John Farrar for writing this song.

Thank you Olivia Newton-John ❤️
for passionately delivering it to the world via your voice with these stellar musicians.

Rest in Peace Sweet Angel .🙏

I had a dream about this song last night.
I had completely forgotten about this song and haven't heard it since the 80s sometime.
I have alot of Olivia's songs downloaded onto my SD card, but not this one, and TBH, I had completely forgotten about it.
Until last night.
It was trippy because in my dream I was listening real hard for the lyrics and I was able to remember enough till I woke up and searched for it.
I googled "will a little more love" and the first thing to pop up was Olivia.
I immediately listened to it in the morning, than again at lunch and now.
I listened to it 6 time's right now.
Idk why but it hit me so hard in my dream.
I am so happy to have found this song again.

As a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's I was absolutely IN LOVE with this woman. RIP beautiful lady.

I was too and never stopped. An absolute beauty, amazing voice, kind and compassionate, and a trailblazer in cancer research and care with her cancer center in australia. I was really torn up when I heard of her passing. I was driving home from work and it came on the news. Not a good time to have an emotional shock. To many legends we grew up with are leaving us, making us feel old and empty in today's turbulent world with lacklustre talent replacing the good stuff we remember.

@meddyven

Yeah, her music just spoke to your heart! Smitten!

Never have I ever-- seen someone play the keyboards and dance the way her pianist/keyboardist does. What an entertaining band. Olivia Newton-John was the first album I ever had, and I never stopped loving her ability to entertain. Totally Hot. The best album I'd ever memorized and haunted people with.
