Blue Moon Nights
John Fogerty Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Help me fellas
I'm feelin' kind-a weak
The way I'm livin' just ain't right
I need somebody t' watch over me
All my blue moon nights

I want a girl to take me by the hand
Follow me right down the line
Hold me gently while we dance
All my blue moon nights

Heaven only knows I don't want to be
Just a fool, passin' through
Won't you send me an angel to walk with me
All my blue moon nights

Help me fellas
It's gettin' kind-a late
Runnin' out of precious time
She might pass me while I waste
All my blue moon nights

Heaven only knows I don't want to be
Just a fool, passin' through

Won't you send me an angel to walk with me
All my blue moon nights

Overall Meaning

In "Blue Moon Nights", John Fogerty is singing about his need for companionship during the lonely, dark periods in his life, which he refers to as his "blue moon nights". He's looking for someone to watch over him and hold him tightly while they dance together. He's aware that his current lifestyle is not healthy, and he knows that he needs someone to support him and guide him in the right direction. Fogerty is also aware of his own mortality, and he fears that he may run out of time before he can find the right person to share his life with. He's not looking for a casual fling, but rather an "angel" to walk with him through all of his challenging times.

The lyrics are straightforward and heartfelt, communicating a universal sentiment of loneliness and the desire for companionship. The repetitive chorus reinforces the idea that Fogerty is stuck in a cycle of loneliness and needs someone to break him free from it. The song is an interesting contrast to some of Fogerty's previous works, which tend to focus on American themes such as war, politics, and social issues. This song is much more personal in nature and shows a vulnerable side to Fogerty's songwriting.

@John Lawrence Let's analyse shall we?
Loctus - "Damn this is great. he must be so damn proud to have his kids there. His daughter beems with pride playing next to her dad."
Next few replies do not mention her clothing or appearance.
|
John Lawrence - "Locutus: or because she is wearing such a short skirt. This world needs stricter Dads."
|
You mention her clothing "Short skirt" and that her father should be stricter in regards to her appearance.
|
Why should her father be more concerned with that?
|
Why would that be an issue for anyone?
|
Could it be because a short skirt invites unwanted eyes and/thoughts?
|
|
Ie thoughts of a prominently sexual nature because the short skirt is somewhat revealing.
Perhaps I mislabeled your intentions. However, the fact that a short skirt on a young woman makes you feel uncomfortable sighting you to be the only person in the thread who mentions it is a strong indicator that you have in-fact sexualized her clothing choice and you are blaming her father for YOUR uncomfortable feelings towards such a thing.
|
Nobody else in the comments to this thread has mentioned anything about her appearance other than you. And I am calling you out on it.
While I respect your morals, opinion and views. It's outdated, vulgar, shows a lack control and a lack of self respect for yourself or woman.

I've had 5 Gretschen, starting long ago with a 1969 Nashville. All great guitars with a great sound for this kind of stuff especially, but can be used to play whatever genre you prefer quite well.
