Song to the Siren
John Frusciante Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On the floating, shapeless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Till your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving in your eyes

And you sang: "Sail to me, sail to me, let me enfold you"
Here I'm, here I'm waiting to hold you.
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was full sail?
Now my foolish boat is leaning.
Broken love lost on your rocks.

For you sang: "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow"
Oh my heart, oh my heart shies to the sorrow.

Well, I'm as puzzled as a newborn child,
I'm as riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or should I lie with dead my bride?

Hear me sing: "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you"
Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to John Frusciante's song "Song To The Siren" can be interpreted as a love song with a bittersweet tone. The opening lines "On the floating, shapeless oceans I did all my best to smile" evoke a sense of loneliness and a struggle to maintain a positive outlook. The singer is then drawn in by the captivating eyes and fingers of the person they are singing to, who implores them to "sail to me" and be enveloped in their love.

As the song progresses, the singer questions the reality of their connection, wondering if it was all just a dream. They express their vulnerability and confusion, feeling lost and broken as their love crashes against the rocks. The person they are singing to becomes distant and untouchable, and the singer is left unsure of how to navigate the situation.

The final lines of the song, "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you / Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you" express a desire for closeness and intimacy, but it is unclear if the singer will be able to achieve it.

Overall, "Song To The Siren" is a haunting and introspective song about the complexities of love and the struggle to connect with another person.

I am transcending to a different world under the ocean , the waves slowly pulling me down
The breath is slowed down ,
The head is lighter
Suddenly it feels like im not bound by my physical body
Im me and im everything around me
The weight of everything has lifted and there's an unusual bliss
I look around
I see my self everywhere and nowhere at all

@YourLifePositive

Your lyrics are not quite right... :-) Here are the actual lyrics...

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle

And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you.
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow"

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I'm as troubled as the tide:
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with Death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, Swim to me, Let me enfold you:
Here I am, Here I am, Waiting to hold you"

I think this is the greatest music ever. John Frusciante in my opinion, is the greatest musician of all time. because the worlds view of music is perverted, he will never be given an award for his music, but me and other JF fans know that know one can ever come close to the beauty and emotion that John Frusciante captures. He is beautiful. He is the best. Period.
