John Garcia & Friends Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was driving, just a masking
A mile out, oh 'til I'm gone
Like a cool breeze, on the riverside
And her addiction was a friend of mine
She's got hard rhythm, so much rhythm
And I'll just ride it out, maybe I'll choke her out
Always standing, always waiting
Are the infinite answers on the other side of yours?

Ah, ah, oh, woah
Ah, ah, oh, woah

Precision like the pen, she was made just to win
All the other ones, born to lose, baby
Transitions and names mean nothing, so choose
Simplify me, don't deny me
That river bourbon Kentucky, confide in me
Oh

Ah, ah, oh, woah
Ah, ah, oh, woah
Ah, ah, oh, woah, oh, oh
Ah, ah, oh, woah, oh, oh
Oh

Oh

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of John Garcia & Friends's song II is about him driving and how he uses it as a form of escape. He is driving with no clear destination, simply using it as a way to escape his troubles. He likens the feeling to a cool breeze by the riverside. It is clear that he is struggling with addiction, and he admits that his addiction is a friend of his. This is a common feeling among people struggling with addiction, where the substance they are addicted to feels like a friend who they can turn to when they are struggling. He also talks about the rhythm of his addiction, how it has a hold on him, and how he is simply riding it out.

The second stanza talks about a woman who is precise and determined, and how he admires her for it. He contrasts her with "all the other ones" who are "born to lose." He talks about how names and transitions mean nothing, and how all he wants is for her to simplify him and not deny him. He then brings up bourbon from Kentucky, a reference to the fact that Kentucky is known for its bourbon, and how he wants her to confide in him. The song ends with a repeat of the chorus.
