Biography
John Hogan hit the Country Music scene with a bang in 1988 when he took a gamble and spent his mortgage money to realise a dream. He recorded a song called Brown Eyes that was taught to him by his mother. The song was an instant hit shooting straight into the top ten of the Irish charts. John at the time was working as a Supervisor with the Irish company Bord na Mona in Tullamore, Co. Offaly and the success of the song took him completely by surprise. The song was so popular with radio listeners that they were calling the radio stations wanting to know more about this new voice. The radio statios were kind of stuck, they knew nothing about him. Within 2 weeks John had left his job at the factory and was on the road with his new band. Such was his popularity that almost straight away John had become a big country music star in Ireland and was packing venues to the point that they were turning people away. John signed with Harmac Records and his first album My Feelings for you was released, it became the best selling country album ever in Ireland and produced many irish chart hits. His popularity had now got the attention of Mick Clerkin who was the owner of London based Ritz Records. John was signed to Ritz and recorded many albums for them including the Nashville Album, which was recorded in the home of Country music. John was now one of the biggest attractions in the music business in Ireland and was working upto six nights per week. Little did john know that an undiagnosed ear problem was to do serious damage to his voice. John was forced to take a break from the business for 5 years on doctors orders. His return album was called Broken Silence. After that he recorded Where I come from, an album of country standards. John's new album is called The Anniversary album. John is back touring Ireland again with a new band.

I was just someone you used to run around with
Someone you knew who'd walk with you to school
You regarded me no more than just the boy next door
But all the time I longed to hold you tight.
Let me be your stepping stone
Let me hold your hand when you need a friend
Let me love you my Diane.
Oh how we used to care and share together
Each day we'd walk that lonely road back home
And with every passing mile how I'll love all the while
And long to hold and kiss you tenderly.
Let me be your stepping stone
Let me be your light in the dark
Let me hold your hand when you need a friend
Let me love you my Diane.
The lyrics of John Hogan's song "Stepping Stone" describe the artist's unrequited love for a girl named Diane. As the song begins, he reminisces about their shared experiences of walking to school together, but laments that he was never more to her than "just the boy next door." Despite this, he continues to harbor strong feelings for her and yearns to "hold [her] tight."
The chorus of the song has him pleading with Diane to let him be her "stepping stone" and "light in the dark," willing to be there for her whenever she needs him. In the second verse, he reflects on how they used to spend time together, walking home from school every day, and expresses his desire to be able to hold and kiss her.
Overall, the lyrics have a melancholic and wistful tone, as the artist mourns the fact that he was never able to properly convey his feelings to his crush. The song is a poignant reminder of the pain that can come with unrequited love and the importance of being honest about one's feelings.
