Along with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, he was one of the key figures in the second generation of the Romantic movement, despite the fact that his work had been in publication for only four years before his death. During his life, his poems were not generally well received by critics; however, his reputation grew and he held significant posthumous influence on many later poets, including Alfred Tennyson and Wilfred Owen.
The poetry of Keats is characterised by sensual imagery, most notably in the series of odes. Today his poems and letters are considered as among the most popular and analysed in English literature.

I had to read this poem in college and really didn't appreciate its beauty. I now know why. If it had been read aloud it would have carried me away. My best English teacher used to read passages to the class. When he read the murder scene from "Macbeth," there was a profound silence in the room. If I heard a loud noise, I would have jumped out of my seat with a racing heart. The oral tradition that started with Homer must come back to life.

I adore this poem since 1962-3 (i was 17 years old) when I translated it in Greek with my rather poor then knowledge of english language.

Me, after reading this poem: "I absolutely love this style of poetry!"
My brother: "Why can't he, (Keats) speak more plainly?" This is my life. 🙄
