Legend also played the piano on Lauryn Hill's 1998 song "Everything is Everything" and sang background vocals on Jay-Z's "Encore" and Alicia Keys' "You Don't Know My Name". Legend frequently cites gospel, R&B, and hip hop music as his main musical influences.
Legend released his critically acclaimed and Billboard Top Ten second album, Once Again, in October 2006. Produced by Raphael Saadiq, Kanye West and will.i.am, it is again a mixture of gospel and classic soul showcasing his extraordinary voice, particularly on "Show Me".

Neo-soul singer and pianist John Legend combined the raw fervor of contemporaries Cody ChesnuTT and the burning precision of D'Angelo. Born John Stephens, Legend was a child prodigy who grew up in Ohio, where he began singing gospel and playing piano at the tender age of five. Legend left Ohio at 16 to attend college in Philadelphia, and it was there that he first found a larger audience. Not yet out of his teens, Legend was tapped to play piano on Lauryn Hill's "Everything Is Everything" in 1998. After completing college, he moved to New York, where he began to build a loyal following playing in nightclubs and releasing CDs that he would sell at shows. He also became an in-demand session musician, playing and occasionally writing for a wide array of artists, including Alicia Keys, Twista, Janet Jackson, and Kanye West. It wasn't until West signed the young talent to his new label that he adopted the Legend name with 2004's Solo Sessions Vol. 1: Live at the Knitting Factory. Get Lifted, his first studio album, was released later in the year. On the strength of enduring single "Ordinary People," the album reached the Top Five of the Billboard 200. This led to three Grammy Awards: Best R&B Album, Best R&B Male Vocal Performance, and Best New Artist. Once Again, which peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and number one on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, followed in October 2006. Live from Philadelphia, sold exclusively at Target stores, was a successful stopgap release that predated October 2008's Evolver.
Start a Fire

I don't know if this is wrong or if it's right
I don't know if there's a beat, or something's taking over me
And I just know I'll feel so good tonight
I don't know what your name is but I like it
I've been thinking 'bout some things I wanna try
I don't know what you came to do, but I wanna do it with you
Oh, if we keep on dancing
Take our rhythm to new heights
Feel the heat of passion, baby
Light up the night
We could start a fire
Come on, let it burn baby
We could start a fire
Let the tables turn baby
We could start a fire
I just know I feel so good
Don't you know I feel so good
I just know I feel so good
Tonight
I don't care if this tuns into a riot
Lets get reckless, tear this place down to the floor
Turn the music way up loud
Can't nobody stop us now
I just know I feel so good tonight
I just know I feel so good tonight
We could start a fire
Come on, let it burn baby
We could start a fire
Let the tables turn baby
We could start a fire
I just know I feel so good
Don't you know I feel so good
Don't you know, don't you know?
Tonight
The lyrics of John Legend's "Start a Fire" showcase the urge to let go and surrender to the rhythm of the music. The song expresses the feeling of being lost in the moment, not caring about anything else, and the desire to take risks and be reckless. The opening lines, "I don't know why I keep moving my body, I don't know if this is wrong or if it's right," suggests that the singer is not in control of his or her body and that the music is a powerful force.
The next verse expresses the singer's interest in someone, admitting that they don't even know the person's name but are drawn to them. The chorus, "We could start a fire, come on, let it burn baby, we could start a fire, let the tables turn baby," alludes to the idea of starting something wild and exciting with the person, even if it leads to chaos. The bridge highlights this sense of abandonment, with the singer stating, "I don't care if this turns into a riot, let's get reckless, tear this place down to the floor."
Overall, "Start a Fire" is about embracing the power of music to let go and be free. It's about throwing caution to the wind and living in the moment. The song incorporates the themes of passion, recklessness, and spontaneity, primarily communicated through the exhilarating words and triumphant melody.

@notme222
It's so brilliantly written too. It has to start out on piano and sound somewhat jazz-like so we can believe this is good for Seb. Then it has to transition into a pop song where the pianist is clearly being underused and just a small piece of something that doesn't suit him. AND be catchy on top of that.
