Biography:
Talbot was born into a Methodist family with a musical background in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and started learning to play the guitar at an early age. At age 15 he dropped out of school and was performing as a guitarist for Mason Proffit, a country folk-rock band formed with his older brother Terry.
Talbot embarked on a spiritual journey that led him through Native American religion and Buddhism to Christianity. At this point he and his brother, Terry, joined the Jesus Movement, recording the album Reborn which was re-released by Sparrow Records (originally released as The Talbot Brothers on the Warner Brothers label).
Two solo albums followed for Talbot: John Michael Talbot (1976) and The New Earth (1977). Both of these were produced by Billy Ray Hearn.
Reading the life of Saint Francis of Assisi, he was inspired to begin studying at a Franciscan center in Indianapolis. He became a Roman Catholic and joined the Secular Franciscan Order in 1978. He started a house of prayer, The Little Portion.
Talbot moved The Little Portion to Eureka Springs, Arkansas on land he had purchased during his Mason Proffit days. He founded his own community, the Brothers and Sisters of Charity, at Little Portion Hermitage as an "integrated monastic community" with celibate brothers and sisters, singles, and families. By 1989, Talbot had married Viola Pratka (with the permission of the Catholic Church). Pratka was a former Incarnate Word Sister who had come to the community in 1986.
Per the community's General Constitutions, Talbot's title is "General Minister and Spiritual Father". For many years, he has promoted the work of Mercy Corps.
The hermitage suffered a fire in April 2008 in which the chapel, library and many common areas were destroyed.
On April 10, 2010 the Bishop of Little Rock, Anthony Taylor, dedicated the new buildings. On October 2, 2010 the Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage celebrated the opening of the new monastery church and common center.

And my spirit exalts in God my savior
For He has looked with mercy on my lowliness
And my name will be forever exalted
For the mighty God has done great things for me
And His mercy will reach from age to age
And holy, holy, holy is His name
He has mercy in every generation
He has revealed His power and His glory
He has cast down the mighty in their arrogance
And has lifted up the meek and the lonely
He has come to help His servant Israel
He remembered His promise to our fathers
And holy, holy, holy is His name
Holy, holy, holy is His name
The lyrics of John Michael Talbot's song Holy Is His Name depict the humility and reverence of the singer towards the Almighty power of God. The opening lyrics "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, And my spirit exalts in God my savior" exude a feeling of gratitude and admiration for God's mercy towards the singer's lowliness. The singer acknowledges that God has done great things for them and their name will always be exalted because of it.
The next verse talks about how God's mercy transcends time and generation, how He has always revealed His power and His glory to mankind. In doing so, He has cast down the arrogant and lifted up the meek and the lonely. The singer recognizes the might of God in fulfilling His promises, especially to Israel. The repeating phrase "And holy, holy, holy is His name" is essentially a refrain and signifies the divine nature of God and His attributes of purity, righteousness, and omnipotence.
In conclusion, the lyrics of Holy Is His Name communicate the inherent humility and gratefulness that a devout believer shows towards God. It showcases the omnipotent nature of God and how His mercy transcends time and generations. It is a song of adoration and thanksgiving towards the creator and sustainer of the universe.

I too have lost. Every member of my family has been called home at young ages and found myself the lone person left in this very dark world. Even my friends on 9/11... I would not wish my criss on another yet I know I have been given a strong gift of faith and that is the cross I was given to carry. I thank Jesus and Mother Mary for having given me my baby, brother, sister, Mother, Father, Husband, and dear friends. The pain of losing them all is unbearable but the Love given to me from God above through them all was priceless. Praise Jesus that our Catholic faith alone knows that if I unite my sufferings to those of our Lords on his cross freely they become very powerful and do have purpose. I call it the Gospel of suffering for we were told to pick up our crosses and follow our Lord. In no way do I mean to impune any suffering of any person or creature of God nor do I underestimate how difficult this is to do.
I fall under the weight of my cross all the time but so did Jesus and he kept getting up and going on.
God could have accomplished opening the gates of heaven with one thought yet he chose horrific suffering unto death. This is an extremely important teaching most rarely consider. Jesus teaches us that it was through suffering that we could achieve redemption and we are suppise to sanctify our sufferings by freely uniting them to Jesus through Mother Mary. We must never forget how very much she suffered with her beloved son our Lord Jesus. In the eyes of this Godless world I may be considered nothing. Being considered nothing by most people today keeps us humble and tells us that we did not fall prey to a Godless world where everything God considers a sin has suddenly become acceptable and normal.
"But for the Grace of God go I."
I have no strength left so I know Jesus and Mary are helping me get through each and every day. I pray for the majority of people today who have chosen to worship this earthly world and are risking their eternal world. Please pray that I, who offended our Lord greatly by falling into the ways of this world will never forsake God again.
We are all children of the same God making us all brothers and sisters. If God chose us to live in these mostly Godless times we must all have the mission to pray, do penance, offer sacrifices and sufferings and all that we have in reparation for all the sins commited against Our Lord and Lady and to convert poor sinners for God never wishes to lose a single soul.
Our Lady of Fatima showed the children hell and said many go there because no one is praying, doing penance nor making sacrifices for them. She also told us that we have offended God too much and we need to repent, make reparation, pray the rosary daily, sacrifice and do penance. That was said in 1917 and look at how much more sinful mankind has become. We must try to live the Fatima message because we have not yet seen the worst of God's Chastisement for how sinful mankind has become. And,
"Guard your salvation with fear and Trembling." Lest we lose it.
To Jesus through Mary God bless you.

Mary! My Mother!
by John Joseph Hawkins
Mystical Rose!
Flower God chose!
His Son's repose!
You held Him first in your precious womb
You cared and watched over the bloom
And finally beneath the Cross's Gloom
O Mother most fair!
You are always there!
In You now we place our care!
Into your tender heart
Our pledge is to become part
To you we pray impart
The Master's Loving Art!
Amen 🙏
