Take Me There
John Pratt Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I want to see only you
The first thing that I smell
Is the perfume that is you
So take me there
And lay me down
You'll be the air
Will you cover me
When the rain starts coming down
Will you always love me
Even after I'm dead and gone
So take good care
And lay me down
You'll be the air
My dust blows on
When I wake up
I want to understand it all
And all that I can see
Will be free once and for all
So take good care
When you lay me down
You'll be the air
My dust blows on
Will you cover me
When the rain starts coming down
Will you always love me
Even after I'm dead and gone
So take good care
When you lay me down
You'll be the air
My dust blows on
In the song "Take Me There" by John Pratt, the lyrics express a deep sense of love and dependence on the person being addressed in the song. The first stanza implies that the person wants to wake up and see only their loved one, and smells only the perfume of their loved one. This reveals a strong attachment to their partner and a longing to be close to them at all times. The chorus reinforces this dependance as the singer pleads for their loved one to take them to a place where they can be together and can feel the comfort and support of their partner's presence. Additionally, the singer requests that their partner continue to care for them even after he is gone, which highlights the depth of their love and desire for a long-lasting relationship.
The second stanza in the song underscores the importance of understanding each other in their relationship. The singer wants to comprehend everything and feels that once they do, they will feel free from all their worries. This is significant because it shows that mutual emotional support is necessary to have a healthy and happy relationship. The chorus repeats itself, and in the final lines, the singer wants to know if their loved one will cover them and love them even beyond death. These lyrics showcase the unconditional love that the singer has for their partner.
Overall, the song conveys the deep emotions and dependency that the singer has towards their partner. The lyrics express a profound need to be near and cared for by their loved one and to be understood by them. It is a tribute to the beauty of love and how it can give us strength and comfort in difficult times.

When I wake up
Upon awakening each morning
I want to see only you
I long for your companionship above all else
The first thing that I smell
The initial scent on my senses
Is the perfume that is you
Comes from your fragrance
So take me there
Lead me to the place
And lay me down
Where I can rest
You'll be the air
You will sustain me
That holds me down
Just as gravity keeps us grounded
Will you cover me
Amidst the stormy precipitation, will you shield me?
When the rain starts coming down
During a rainstorm
Will you always love me
Throughout the ages, will you continue to cherish me?
Even after I'm dead and gone
Long after my demise
So take good care
Protect with vigilant tenderness
And lay me down
Help me rest
You'll be the air
Your essence provides life-giving sustenance
My dust blows on
My ashes scatter with the wind
I want to understand it all
I yearn for complete comprehension
And all that I can see
Every single thing within my line of sight
Will be free once and for all
Shall be liberated, once and forever
When you lay me down
Upon your gentle embrace
My dust blows on
The wind carries my remains

I remember when I first saw No One Would Tell in high school, and when I heard this song, I tried so hard to find it... I looked so hard that I called record companies.... :/ Lol.

If Bobby wasn't such a possessive psychopath, this could've been the couple to die for.

Idk if this an irony joke or not...
Ik this was a year ago... but... if you’re not joking...the point of it all was to show he was manipulative asf. He didn’t love her at all. He was pretending to be a “teddy bear”..and it is quite possible that he did have parts of him that weren’t so evil. But it made her trust him and be vulnerable to him, just so he could turn the switch to being a monster and take her off guard. If he was always so evil it would’ve been a bit more easier for her to leave him right? At least a little bit. There wouldn’t have been good moments to look back on. She was emotionally attached but also intimidated by him. He used multiple ways to control her. So no it was a toxic relationship that would’ve still been terrible.

@@miserydark1299 Well-said! I agree. It was indeed possible that Bobby wasn't 100% evil at the beginning, as he had friends & even his mom said he talked about Stacy a lot.
But Bobby was NOT a good guy, he not only abused the women in his life (including his mom) but enjoyed doing so! He worked as hard as he could to be controlling & find excuses to verbally or physically abuse Stacy. To top it off, he manipulated her like crazy & knew what buttons to push to do so.
He knew she was needy & also not the prettiest girl in school....so used that to play on her neediness & make her feel she was nothing without him.

Growing up watching Fred Savage, I always thought he was sort of cute. But I didn't see what was all-that about "Bobby" here.
He isn't even as muscular as he thinks he is, he's kind of goofy. The blonde guy that tries to talk to Stacy in the library (when Bobby throws a hissy fit) was MUCH cuter!
