See You Again
John Taylor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't ever want to see you again
I don't ever want to see you again
but I know that I will
I know that I will

I don't ever want to hear you again
I don't ever want to hear you again
but I know that I will
I know that I will

You maimed me. You shot me down.
You maimed me. You shot me down.

I don't ever want to hear you come calling around
I don't ever want to see you again in this town
I'm gonna get away I'm gonna run away
I'm gonna get away I'm gonna run away
I know that I will
I know that I will
I know that I will
I know that I will

You maimed me. You shot me down.
You maimed me. You shot me down.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to John Taylor's "See You Again" are emotionally charged and powerful, demonstrating the singer's intense desire to break away from a toxic and damaging relationship. He declares that he doesn't ever want to see or hear from this person again, despite the inevitability that he will. The repetition of "I know that I will" shows that no matter how hard the singer tries to distance himself, he is still haunted by the memories of the relationship.

The lyrics also contain a strong sense of anger and hurt, as evidenced by the lines "You maimed me. You shot me down." These words suggest that the relationship was not only emotionally damaging but also physically harmful, indicating a level of abuse that the singer is attempting to escape from. The line "I'm gonna get away, I'm gonna run away" further emphasizes the singer's determination to break free and move on from this painful chapter in his life.

Overall, "See You Again" is a raw and honest portrayal of the pain and trauma that can come from toxic relationships. At its core, the song is about the struggle to not only break free but to heal and move on from the wounds inflicted by past experiences.

To avoid any confusion...
"The 1989 World Tour" is just the name of the tour. This performance happened in 2015, as it is stated in the description and on the video itself (0:13).

Why is that the name? Taylor named her fifth studio album, "1989", after her year of birth, therefore, that was the name given to her forth headlining tour, in support of this album. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
