Main Title from Superman
John Williams Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Candles in the window
Shadows painting the ceiling
Gazing at the fire glow
Feeling that gingerbread feeling

Precious moments, special people
Happy faces, I can see
Somewhere in my memory
Christmas joys all around me
Living in my memory

All of the music, all of the magic
All of the family, home here with me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to John Williams's song "Main Title" from Home Alone convey a sense of nostalgia and longing for the joys of Christmas. The imagery of candles in the window and shadows painting the ceiling create a warm, cozy atmosphere that evokes memories of happy holiday moments in the past. The line "feeling that gingerbread feeling" further emphasizes the idea of nostalgia, as the scent of gingerbread is often associated with childhood and holiday traditions.

The second stanza speaks to the importance of the people and experiences that make Christmas special. The mention of "precious moments" and "happy faces" highlights the emotional connection we have with those we love, particularly during the holiday season. The final stanza brings everything together, emphasizing the power of memories to transport us back to happy times, even when we are physically separated from loved ones. The repeated phrase "somewhere in my memory" is particularly poignant, highlighting the idea that some memories are so cherished that they become a part of us, always present in our hearts and minds.

Overall, the lyrics to "Main Title" from Home Alone capture the essence of what makes Christmas so special: the people we love, the memories we cherish, and the magic that seems to be in the air during this time of year.

I am a Japanese.
In 1979, when I was a junior high school student, I saw this movie at a movie theater in my country hometown.
And from the bottom of my heart, I was numbed by this heroic and moving opening music.
I think it's one of the best musics in movie history.
Even now, when I listen to this music, I am moved to tears.
