1) John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. With a career spanning over six decades, he has composed some of the most popular, recognizable, and critically acclaimed film scores in cinematic history, including those of the Star Wars series, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, the first two Home Alone films, Hook, the first two Jurassic Park films, Schindler's List, and the first three Harry Potter films. He has a very distinct sound that mixes romanticism, impressionism and atonal music with complex orchestration. The classical music critic Marcus Paus argues that Williams' "satisfying way of embodying complex dissonances and avant-garde techniques within a larger tonal framework" makes him "one of the great composers of any century".
Williams has been associated with director Steven Spielberg since 1974, composing music for all but three of his feature films. Williams married Barbara Ruick, an American actress and singer, in 1956. Together they had three children: Jennifer (b. 1956), Mark Towner Williams (b. 1958), and Joseph (b. 1960), who is the lead singer of Toto. The two remained married until her death in 1974. In 1980, Williams married Samantha Winslow, a photographer.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, on 24 April 1941, to an English father (Len Williams) and an Australian-Chinese mother, Williams was taught initially by his father. At the age of twelve he went to Italy to study under "The Maestro," Andrés Segovia. Later, he attended the Royal College of Music in London, studying piano because the school did not have a guitar department at the time. Upon graduation, he was offered the opportunity to create such a department. He seized the opportunity and ran it for the first two years. Williams has maintained links with the College (and with the Northern College in Manchester) ever since.
Williams is best known as a classical guitarist, but has explored many different musical traditions. He has collaborated with Julian Bream and Paco Peña and was a member of the fusion group Sky. He is also a composer and arranger.
Williams has commissioned guitar concertos from composers such as Stephen Dodgson, André Previn, Patrick Gowers, Richard Harvey, and Steve Gray. He has also worked with composers from his native Australia, including Phillip Houghton, Peter Sculthorpe, Ross Edwards (composer), and Nigel Westlake, to produce guitar works that capture the spirit of his homeland.
He enjoyed a worldwide hit single with his recording of Cavatina by Stanley Myers, used as the theme tune to the Oscar-winning film The Deer Hunter (1979). The piece had originally been written for piano, for another film ten years earlier, The Walking Stick (1970) but re-written for guitar and expanded by Myers at Williams' invitation. In 1973, Cleo Laine wrote lyrics and recorded the song "He Was Beautiful" accompanied by John Williams. A year later, it was a top-five UK hit single for Iris Williams (no relation).
At the invitation of producer Martin Lewis he created a highly acclaimed classical-rock fusion duet with celebrated rock guitarist Pete Townshend of Townshend's anthemic "Won't Get Fooled Again" for the 1979 Amnesty International benefit show The Secret Policeman's Ball. The duet was featured on the resulting album and the film version of the show – bringing Williams to the broader attention of the rock audience.
The relationship with Lewis led to Williams' classical-rock fusion band Sky being invited to give the first-ever rock concert to be held at Westminster Abbey – a benefit concert for Amnesty that Lewis produced in February 1981.
He is visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

@B18DCCN411 - Trần Đỗ Minh Hey ! how to answer you lol.. not easy.. i don't like french tunes in general (except 2 singers) but why ? well, mainly because french are not up to american and english produced music in term of ... everything. but it's my own opinion, lot of people would disagree.
as a musician, I studied and play / write Jazz, pop, Rock, Film Music (I composed 2 soundtracks in my past), and my musical culture except for classical music, is fully american.
for me, one of the issue of french music is the langage itself. the french langage has an issue, it's not a rhythmic langage.
As well in france, the tendency is more about "lyrics first" and music after (in term of songwritting), when in america, it's the reverse. Sometimes they are good stuff produced in France but it's pretty rare. (i mainly talk about stuff produced in the 80's/90's and early 2000. After That, I think american music started to decline a lot as well.
one example if the tune Comme D'habitude, which sound much better in english (My Way) than in french, it's not only the arrangement and the production, it's as well, how each syllabs sound in french compared to the english ones.
i'm mainly influenced and kind of blocked in music produced in the 80's and 90's in america with some exception. that's explain why i mainly like Fabian's release done in english. the Song J'y crois encore is very interesting, because it has been produced and written like it was an 90's american tune production, in term of arrangement, that's maybe why it's one of the few that i like in french ;).
As a fan of John Williams since i'm a kid but David Foster, Goldenthal and Afanasieff as well, you can see why my preferences are there too. for me, even if a singer is important, there is no good song without a great production and a great songdwriting. Rick Allison is one of few from Europe who is up there with some of the best american producers !

@stephen wortley Well there are different kind of covers. sometimes there is just isn't time to rehearsal or work the tune, certainly the arrangement was already done, and Fabian just came for the concert, doing a rehearsal in the morning, like it happened at the David foster and friends Concert etc..
The boston pops concert was that kind of concert.
After, with some tunes, it's difficult to do his "own version" (I did a cover of this tune with the voice of Fabian and arranged it in Walter Afanasieff Style (i'll post it soon on my own channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/didiermartini )
Anyway, I know Evergreen because two things. it was in my personnal gig sheet music book to play when i was a pianist doing gigs, and because of this version of Lara Fabian, I may have heard the tune sung by Barbra one time a long time ago, I almost don't remember her own version. I know it much more because it's a composition of Paul Williams.
I think here, Lara Fabian wanted more to do a tribute than doing his own version of the song. When a tune is so much related to an artist, or his composer or singer, sometimes, doing a different version is difficult, But I agree, that a more personnal version would have been better, it's always better, but sometimes there is just no time for it depending of the concert and how it's done.

I am so familiar with Barbra Streisand's and love her version so much. Not many singers sing this song. I am glad that I listened to Lara Fabian's rendering of this song, she sang so beautifully. Both singers are fantastic.

Thank you for this little gem. I had no idea she did more with Williams other than For Always. What a great performance! There are quite a few excellent singers, and there are a few legends. But Lara is in a class by herself. A true giant. I think Williams (a giant himself) gets it too.
