You Are the Generation That Bought More Shoes and You Get What You Deserve
Johnny Boy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I just can't help believing
though believing sees me cursed
For belief ignores the heathen's
day by day sigh 'even worse'
But for all we are receiving
there's an evens key to turn
You are the generation that bought more shoes and you get what you deserve
Winter sweeps the streets of evening,
this frequency my universe To reel a deep or meaning feelingγ€€in seas where schools of fools be first But for all we are receiving
there's an evens key to turn
You was the generation that snorts for tunes and you get what you deserve

Burberry Beamer Beakheads
leaving Adidas sleek mystique reversed
Without a dream or scream between 'em.
Believing time does reimburse

Suffer all we are receiving

there's an evens key to turn
You are the generation that bought more shoes and you get what you deserved

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Johnny Boy's song You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve highlight the materialistic tendencies of society and the consequences that come with it. The belief in consumerism has cursed the generation, causing them to ignore the problems that plague the world today. Despite the obvious social and environmental issues, people keep on buying and accumulating more, leading to further disillusionment with the real problems of the world. The reference to shoes as a symbol of consumption is significant as they are a measure of status and wealth, and the desire to own more pairs serves as a commentary on society's greed and waste.

The imagery in the song is also significant, with the mention of winter sweeping through the streets, reflecting the dark and bleak state of mind. The use of the phrase 'schools of fools' highlights the herd mentality that people are adopting in their consumerist habits. The use of the words 'suffer' and 'cursed' reflect the negative consequences that arise from an excessive focus on consumption. The line "You was the generation that snorts for tunes and you get what you deserve" highlights how society's obsession with the latest trends can have equally negative effects on people's lives.

In conclusion, Johnny Boy's song serves as a warning about the dangers of consumerism and materialism, and how it can lead to a complacent mentality towards the world's problems. The lyrics urge us to be mindful of our actions and to focus on the real issues facing us.

It seems Adam Curtis showed me the best song ever written while fragmenting what I believed to be real.

@cooljerknoslogan

@Ben M yes, I have arrived here from ICGYOOMH ep 4!

@wmwinterbottom

All I really got from the series is that people are inherently flawed, we betray out deepest desires and it doesn’t matter because there’s no such thing as free will.
Which is fine because we can’t perceive it. Just live your life on your terms .

Adam Curtis brought me here . This montage at the end of part 4 is just one of the best sequences in Documentary filmmaking . The song put together with the images make the mood so absurd , tragic and sad even though the song is upbeat . This is an amazing song .

@dadoogie

His entire series is watching the car crash of modern history. Was brilliant and some of the tracks he picks are still my faves.

@VillemarMxO

Yes that sequence was the most stunning, aesthetically arresting thing I saw in 2021. A perfect juxtaposition of imagery and music.

@mt-set

I laughed hysterically hard and wept at the same time from the juxtapositions. I couldn’t help itβ€”maybe I’m one of the stupid. But it was closest I’ll ever get to eating the human spirit, and then tossing the packaging away.
