Blue Suede Shoes
Johnny Cash Jerry Lee Lewis And Carl Perkins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well it's one for the money, two for the show
Three to get ready, now go cat go
But don't you, step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

But you can knock me down, step in my face
Slander my name all over the place
And do anything that you want to do
But uh uh honey lay off of my shoes
And don't you step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

Oh let's go cat

But you can burn my house, steal my car
Drink my liquor from an old fruit jar
Do anything that you want to do
But uh uh honey lay off of them shoes
And don't you, step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

Rock

Well it's one for the money, two for the show
Three to get ready, now go cat go
But don't you, step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

Well it's blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes yeah
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes baby

Blue, blue, blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

Overall Meaning

The song "Blue Suede Shoes" by Johnny Cash Jerry Lee Lewis And Carl Perkins is a classic rock and roll hit that was originally composed by Carl Perkins in 1955. The song tells the story of a man who owns a pair of blue suede shoes that he treasures and does not want people to step on or ruin. The opening lines “Well it's one for the money, two for the show, Three to get ready, now go cat go” are said to be an ode to Elvis Presley's signature intro for his performances.

The lyrics of this song are a metaphor for a man's personal boundaries, and the things that he is willing and unwilling to tolerate from others. The blue suede shoes stand for something that is valued and cherished, and the man is willing to put up with all kinds of injustices as long as no one messes with his shoes. This song became very popular among the youth, who understood the importance of personal identity and respect.

Never understood why Elvis Presley became a living God and Carl Perkins remains nearly unknown by most people. Carl Perkins was probably the best Rock& n' Roll star who ever lived !!!!
