Joined the British Army in 1956, where he learned to play the guitar while posted in London. Was posted to Singapore in 1959 where he began performing in bars and cabarets in his off hours. Was posted to Hong Kong in 1965 where he began performing large concerts with other folk performers in the British and U.S. military. He also performed on television and radio (including the "Voice of America in East Asia") and played venues like the Hong Kong Hilton. In 1967 he was posted again to Singapore where he began his own folk club at the Anophel Inn. Tom Lewis and Pam Ayres performed there, among others. He was demobilized in 1968, and he began to perform full-time.
In 1983 he and Jim Mageean, performing as a duo, won the Intervision Song Contest in Rostock, in East Germany. Later, in 1987, they were invited by the East German government to perform at a sea shanty festival in Berlin commemorating the city's founding. Although recent heath problems have slowed him down, Collins continues to tour and perform worldwide including in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland and France as well as making frequent appearances in his native country at Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races, and maritime festivals at Hull, Lancaster, Bristol, Dundee, Maldon, Portsmouth, Gosport, Greenwich and Chatham.

Hello. Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. I can’t reach you any other way because your Google+ is restricted. You probably forgot you posted these by now or aren’t on this account anymore but I thank you nonetheless.

Hey, you're welcome. I used to enjoy this music more (not that I'm not now). Searched this album really hard and found it on a strange website. Uploaded here so that others can enjoy. I'm really glad you liked it.

Hi is the the same song The Dogger that Ralph Vaughan Williams heard sung in a pub in Kings Lynn and incorporated the melody into his Norfolk Rhapsody No1 ?
@Buckwheatie
Sailing over the Dogger Bank
Oh, wasn't it a treat?
The wind a-blowing 'bout east north east,
We had to give our sheet.
You should to see us rally,
The wind a-blowing free,
A passage from the Dogger Bank
To Great Grimsby.
Chorus:
So watch her, twig her,
She's a proper juber-ju.
Give her the sheet and let her rip,
We're the boys to see her through.
You should to see us rally,
The wind a-blowing free,
A passage from the Dogger Bank
To Great Grimsby.
Now the captain he's a shangaroosh
And he loves a drop of good ale,
The mate he is a road-stone inspector,
He's been seen in many a jail.
The third hand he's a bush ranger,
He comes from the African Isle,
And you oughtta take a look at the poor old cook,
He gets so hoppity wild.
Now, we are the boys to make a noise
When we come home from sea,
We get right drunk, and full of beer,
And cause a jubilee;
We get right drunk and full of beer
And roll all over the floor,
And when the money is all gone,
We'll go to sea for more.
So it's watch her, twig her,
The piperay she goes;
With high heels and painted toes
Jinnie is all the go
She is one of them flash girls,
Doesn't she cut a shine?
She can do a double shuffle
On the Knickerbocker Line.
