He was the first musician that parents loved to hate. He was the first performer to be awarded with a gold record. Also the first to go on an extended national tour and the first successful artist to leave the local shores for Australia. Mad hysteria had taken New Zealand by storm in proportions they had never seen before. Johnny Devlin was New Zealand's original king of rock'n'roll.

The Backing vocal are made by Bee Gees!!!! (RIP Robin Gibb, past in last 20/may/2012) This is the first of two (known) Johnny Devlin singles that had the Bee Gees as backup singers, and was probably the first Top Five hit record the brothers appear on. It was also their first record release outside Australia: in 1996, a fan reported finding a single released in 1963 or 1964 on the Olga label in Scandinavia.
@bellos49
We've got a town called Walla Walla too - and it's not too far from Tumbarumba
@Telstar62a
Like it! I'd only heard the Hoodoo Gurus' (pretty damn good) version; nice to hear the original. Thanks for posting it!
@nanacris721
Bee Gees singing backup WOW
@Telstar62a
Plus, it's one of those names that's distinctive and 'fun' to say, like Walla Walla or Cucamonga here in the States. Now I wish Chumbawumba would do a cover... :^)
@sexobscura
"GREAT" CLIP
very THRILLEResque
@TheSexagenarian
the answer to Ozrocks question is (or might be) that "Tumbarumba" means stomping ground or sounding ground
@birt49
Oops. I was only giving a geography lesson for those not in the know. Great song and a great little town too.
