Gill, the son of a minister, started singing at age five in a family gospel group called "Wings of Faith". His solo career began in 1983 when his childhood friend, singer Stacy Lattisaw convinced him to record a demo. The demo he recorded fell into the hands of the president of Atlantic Records, and his self-titled debut album was released shortly thereafter. Then, Johnny teamed up with Stacy for a duet album, which featured their first together, "Perfect Combination", a second album on Atlantic Records, Chemistry, yielded the song "Half Crazy,".
Gill's big break came in 1987, when he replaced Bobby Brown in New Edition, a 1980s pop group. With Gill as one of the lead singers, the group developed a more mature, adult sound, hitting the charts with songs such as "Can You Stand The Rain," "N.E. Heartbreak," and the Johnny Gill lead "Boys To Men". During a hiatus from New Edition, Johnny embarked on a solo career. The hits from his self entitled 1990 album include "My, My, My," "Rub You the Right Way," "Fairweather Friend" and "Wrap My Body Tight". On this album, Gill played guitar, bass, bongos, and drums in addition to performing his lead and background vocals.
In 1993, Gill released another solo project, Provocative, which included the songs "Quiet Time to Play," "A Cute, Sweet, Love Addiction," and a gospel song, "I Know Where I Stand." In 1996, Gill was reunited with his New Edition bandmates, including Brown, as they recorded Home Again together, an album noted for the singles "Hit Me Off" and "Still In Love". Gill also released Let's Get the Mood Right in 1996, which included the title song, "Love In an Elevator," and "Maybe." The following year, he collaborated with Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat to form the supergroup LSG (Levert/Sweat/Gill) which resulted in the multi platinum debut album, Levert-Sweat-Gill, and a follow-up album entitled LSG2.
Gill, the only member of New Edition who is not from Boston, was raised in Washington DC where he attended Kimball Elementary and Sousa Junior High. His career dictated that he complete his high school education through the services of a tutor. Johnny had planned to attend college and pursue a degree in electrical engineering, but his career came first.
His latest recording, "You For Me (The Wedding Song)" from the Madea's Family Reunion Soundtrack received strong reviews from music critics as well as the general public. As of 2006, he is still performing with the group as well as performing solo as part of the Body and Soul Tour, which includes fellow NE members Bell Biv DeVoe.
At the 2011 BET Awards, he announced that he will be releasing a new album, after a 16 year hiatus.

Johnny Gill Lyrics

Oh, oh, girl it's your body (it's your body, body, girl)
I just can't seem to get enough, yeah
Enough of your lovin'
Girl it's your body (it's your body, body, baby)
Oh, it's your body
Girl it's your body (it's your body, body, girl)
Gir-ir-irl
Listen (tell them about it Johnny)
Don't think that I'm crazy
See you've been my lady
For so many years
And I think it's time that I let you know how I feel
You see I finally figured it out
Why I still can't seem to get enough of your love
Enough of our love, yeah, yeah
Every time I'm near you
My whole body can't keep still
Girl I'm on fire
Temperature's rising
Higher and higher
Girl I lose all self control
Every time, every time you're near
Every time you're near
Oh, I know that it's your body
(Girl it's your body)
That keeps me yearning
(Girl, it's your body)
That keeps my body burning
(I just can't seem to get enough)
Can we make babies
(Enough of your love)
Can we make babies
(Enough of your lovin')
Can we make a family
(Girl it's your body) (It's your body, body, baby)
Girl it's your body
(Girl it's your body) (It's your body, body, girl)
That keeps me yearning all night long
(Oh, oh, oh)
Yeah
Don't think I'm crazy
See you've been my lady
For so-o-o-o-o-o-o many years
And I think it's time that I let you know that
That I finally figured it out (figured it out)
Why I still can't seem to get enough of your love
(Girl it's your body)
Girl it's your body, baby
(Girl it's your body)
So you know what I want you to do, I want you (it's your body)
(I just can't seem to get enough)
Step into my bedroom (enough of your love)
Take off all your clothes (enough of your lovin')
Lay down
Let me rub your body down (girl it's your body)
Let me feel your body down (girl it's your body)
Let me squeeze your body (oh, oh)
Let me give you everything that you want
Eveything that you need
Now let me take my time (it's your body)
To express myself girl (it's your body)
Your body's so unusual
It makes me weak (weak)
But I'll be honest baby
I don't want nobody else
Nobody, nobody,nobody else
You're my computer love
You're my computer love
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Shoo-be-do-wop
I want your body, body baby
Shoo-be-do-wop
I want your body, body girl
I just can't seem to get enough
The lyrics to Johnny Gill's song Your Body are about his intense physical and emotional attraction to a woman. He tells her that he can't get enough of her body and that every time he is near her, his body becomes like a furnace, burning with desire for her. Gill acknowledges that they have been together for many years and it's time for him to reveal his feelings for her. He wants to start a family with her and spend the rest of his life with her. He urges her to come to his bedroom, where he wants to explore every inch of her body and give her everything she wants and needs.
The lyrics of Your Body are a classic example of a love song that emphasizes physical attraction to a person. However, the song goes deeper than just lust and longing for Gill. It speaks to the emotional and spiritual connection he has with his lover. He is aware that he needs her both physically and emotionally. He wants to create a family unit with her and stay with her for the rest of his life.

I agree that JG's voice is awesome but dude ad-libs too much. Sometimes it gets to the point where he's doing more ad-libbing than singing. I got a lot of his music but can't mess with dude live. lol
