Shakin' All Over
Johnny Kidd & The Pirates Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you move in right up close to me
That's when I get the shakes all over me
Quivers down my back bone
I've got the shakes down the kneebone
Yeah, havin' the tremors in the thighbone
Shakin' all over

Just the way you say goodnight to me
Brings that feeling on inside of me
Quivers down my back bone
I've got the shivers down the thighbone
Yeah, the tremors in my back bone
Shakin' all over

Quivers down my back bone
Yeah, I have the shakes in the kneebone
I've got the tremors in the back bone
Shakin' all over

Well, you make me shake and I like it, baby

Well, you make me shake and I like it, baby
Well, you make me shake and I like it, baby

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Johnny Kidd & The Pirates's song Shakin All Over are a classic example of a song that describes the feeling of being in love. The tune is actually about the way that someone can make you feel when they are close to you. The singer in the song describes the physical and emotional sensations that they feel when their lover is near them. When they get close, they get "the shakes all over" and feel "quivers down their back bone." The imagery used to describe these feelings is visceral and intense. The tremors seem to affect every part of the singer's body, from their kneebone to their thighbone and back again. The chorus reinforces this idea, with Kidd repeating the phrase "shakin' all over" several times.

The second verse continues with the same theme, describing how the singer gets the "shivers down their thighbone" just from the way their lover says goodnight. This further emphasizes the intense physical and emotional response that the singer has to their lover. The chorus repeats, with the addition of the line "I've got the tremors in my back bone" which again emphasizes the all-encompassing nature of the shaking and trembling that the singer feels.

In conclusion, the song Shakin All Over is a classic example of a love song that describes the intense physical and emotional response that someone can elicit in you. The vivid imagery and visceral descriptions of shaking and trembling give the lyrics a powerful and palpable quality, which has helped to make this song a rock and roll classic.

I'm a Japanese teenager girl.
My favorite Japanese guitarist respected Mick Green.
So I learned about Johnny Kidd & The Pirates.
I wanted to listen to various songs from this band and I bought the best album CD
And now I like it!
There are very few Japanese who are aware of it
So I think that it would be better if the goodness of this is conveyed to them.
(Maybe my English is something wrong.
But please don't care about it.)
