Close The Door
Johnny Rodriguez Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How can I be sure you're being honest with me?
Can I take your love for truth?
There comes a time in ev'ry man's life
When he needs a little proof.

So show me something different. Something I ain't never seen before.
This time instead of gettin' up and goin' home to him;
Just Get Up And Close The Door.
Just Get Up And Close The Door. And say you'll stay with me tonight,

Say you won't regret morning light,
Then I'll believe the words of love you've said to me before, if you'll
Just Get Up And Close The Door.

This time instead of getting up and goin' home to him,
Just Get Up And Close The Door.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Johnny Rodriguez's song "Just Get Up And Close The Door" speak to the universal feeling of doubt and uncertainty when it comes to love. The song is a plea for trust and honesty, as the singer asks his lover to demonstrate their commitment in a tangible way. The repetition of the line "Just Get Up And Close The Door" represents a literal and symbolic act of shutting out external distractions and focusing solely on the bond between the two people in the room.

The lyrics also touch on the fear of regret and the desire for reassurance. The singer worries that their lover might leave in the morning or fail to follow through on their promises. By asking them to stay and sealing off the outside world, the singer hopes to build a foundation of trust and security. The phrase "if you'll Just Get Up And Close The Door" implies that the act of staying and committing is all that is needed to ease the singer's doubts.

The song's message is both simple and powerful, reflecting the primal need for human connection and fidelity. The soaring melody and Rodriguez's soulful voice lend an emotional weight to the lyrics, making them resonate with listeners across generations and cultures.

Amazing voice, amazing singer!!!
He's right up there with the best of them all. Johnny Rodriguez and I ran alot of interstates together when I was running large cars coast to coast. That's when country was country, not this crap we hear today.
