Ventura and his orchestra, the "Combo Show", added rock and roll elements to the genre in the early 1960s, influenced by the early stars of American rock (including Elvis Presley). His hits include "Patacón pisao", "Pitaste", "El elevador", "La agarradera", "Capullo y Sorrullo", and "El tabaco," and has recorded over 100 albums. He continued to record into the 1990s.
Ventura became involved in politics in 1962, joining the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD). He was Vice Mayor of Santo Domingo under Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez from 1982 to 1986, and was Mayor from 1998 to 2002.

pero pitaste? fiu, fiu
que si pitaste? fiu, fiu
y tú pitaste? fiu, fiu... hey
se casó una parejita
ambos muy ricos de cuna
y vivian muy felices
un día el padre de la jóven
quiso visitar su hija
sólo quería comprobar
como vivía su niña
la muchahcha muy contenta
le mostró al padre su casa
el comedor, la pisina
el jardín y la terraza
papi este es el cuarto mío
mira que lindo y que fresco
al lado el de mi marido
la tercera pa'tus nietos
¡el padre se sorprendió!
y le preguntó extrañado
como van a tener hijos?
si duermen tan separados
ella dijo no hay problema
por lo que me preguntaste
cuando él desea me pita
o yo pregunto, pitaste?
Nestor mi amigo cubano
siempre toma chocolate
por si acaso le preguntan:
oye mi chico, pitaste?
Gilbertico siempre cena
ensalada de tomate
por si su mujer pregunta:
bendito nene, pitaste?
y como dice mi compadre Teo,
ese es mi'jo
Jairo el colombiano cena
patacon con agüacate
por si su mujer le dice:
oye pela'o, pitaste?
oiga, y usted por casualidad, silva?
Emeterio en Yucatán
le dijo a Pedro su cuate
ella le grita de noche:
¡andele mano!, pitaste?
Body darling my you, fiu
y pitaste? fiu, fiu
pero pitaste? fiu, fiu
digo usted pitó? fiu, fiu
digame ha pitado? fiu, fiu
pero pitaste? fiu, fiu
que si pitaste? fiu, fiu
fiufi fiufiu
The song "¿Pitaste?" by Johnny Ventura is a humorous and playful commentary on the ways in which couples communicate their desires and needs to each other. The song tells the story of a wealthy couple who are visited by the young woman's father, and as they show off their luxurious home, the father becomes confused as to how they plan to have children when they sleep in separate rooms. The young woman nonchalantly explains that when her husband desires intimacy or she does, they simply "pitan" (whistle) to let the other know.
The rest of the song is a series of humorous examples of different couples and individuals who have their own unique ways of "piting" to communicate with each other. From Nestor the Cuban who always takes chocolate in case someone asks if he's "pited," to Jairo the Colombian who eats a specific meal in case his wife asks, the song paints a picture of a world where people communicate their desires with subtlety and humor. The catchy chorus of "Pitaste? fiu, fiu" is a playful nod to this idea of communication through whistling.
